The current state of D-Mods
I cannot remember a single worthwhile D-Mod being released this year.
This saddens me, and almost has me motivated to develop one of my own.

Hmm... I'd like to see that d-mod. C'mon on, people, let's all make Tal sad!
Well the only dmods I have planned this year are test ones for updated versions of Treasury and Dink.Ini Rewrite along with a test dmods for a few other development projects that I have planned. Not exactly what you would call quality dmods. I'm not even sure if they should really even count since they aren't even romps. they should be called test mods instead perhaps.
The current lack of quality d-mods is worrying, but I would expect to see a boon next year.
With excellent d-mod authors such as Simeon and SimonK working on reasonably expansive projects, there are (irritatingly large) gaps between the releases on good d-mods.
We will probably be inundated with top notch d-mods sometimes next year. Well... you never know!
Maybe I will get off my ass an make another d-mod too. Possibly.

I'm trying to create a better dmod at the moment, probably of the Quest length (and some customized graphics). It will feature multiple quests to finish, and a bonus quest. I don't know if I'll get it done this year, though...
Anyways, Tal is right. I haven't seen many good dmods either. I now realize my previous dmod was no good either.

This raises what could be another reason for the lack of "good" d-mods. Most experienced d-mod authors would prefer to create a more exciting adventure than their last, no?
Consider how much time it takes to better Pilgrims Quest (with it's vast amount of new graphics and tiles), Initiation (widely regarded as the most revolutionary d-mod yet) and Cloud Castle 2 (with the most amount of scripts ever - I think - and countless amounts of dialogue).
All these d-mods took a long time to create, and will take a long time to better. I doubt SimonK would be happy releasing Necromancer when it didn't go one step further than PQ, just as I wouldn't be hapy releasing CC3 unless it siginificantly bettered CC2.
Ya diggit?

Watch me, i'm gonna better all those dmods.
well, maybe not pilgrim's quest.

Hmmm, "Necromancer" is taking a little longer... so no December 2005 release...
Yeah, doing clever scripting, good story, tons of dialogue, new graphics... etc takes time - not to mention trying to be "fresh" and "innovative" when lots of stuff has already been done. I guess the best thing to focus on now is - story!
Make the story dang interesting or start beating yourself into a

*kicks Tal in the shins*
Dare ya to make a dmod, poo-poo head!

Well I have a highly original dmod planned... I reckon it will be good too... the only problem is that I have so many other things planned that I don't expect it to be ready for quite some time yet.
I work on a quest too. But I'm so lazy.... and so busy..... zzzzzz.....one day it will be released.
Familiar - my quest is progressing.. slowly
I wish I had time right now. I'm in my exams yeah and HUB2 will be halted for an undefined amount of time.
Hey, I think I found the explanation for less 'good' dmods! All good creators are either too busy or lazy...

But, reasoning using that theory, the crappy D-Mod creators should have enough time to create a crappy D-Mod but when they have enough time, the quality of the D-Mod should improve... sadly that part of the theory isn't true
The hole in that theory is that not the quality of DMODs in general would improve, but only the quality of the DMODs made by the crappy DMOD author.
And if crappy DMOD authors get too good, they grow lazy.
And if crappy DMOD authors get too good, they grow lazy.
Well I haven't even begum mine... it's just a concept so far... all I can tell you for now since I don't want to ruin the plot is that there will be a few plot dragons in it. Not surprising concidering my name hah?
I reckon I could make a dmod. But my problem is not laziness but that I've overcomitted myself. I have over ten current profects, four of which are Dink related. A few are book related (different books). I'm also trying to write a couple of software licenses. Also a yahoo group. I'm trying to help a friend make a website.Trying to make my own website. I also have a few minor projects.
There is a perfectly working 'modify post' button, but whatever.
Again an unenlightened one. When you read this as 'nested', you'll see that that post you replied to was in reply to metatarasal, while the post 5 minutes before that was in reply to cypry
Nested rules, go nested!

Indeed. I like to use it so I dont make the same mistake as DaVince did.
I had pretty much the same thought. However, the major problem with my work in progress is that it isn't just a fundamentally bad idea, but it's actually a composite of several fundamentally bad ideas. Unfortunately, that's what makes it so attractive for me to make. And unfortunately, that means it's going to take a while and may not be all that much by the time it gets finished, if I finish it at all.
On the other hand, the minor problem with my work in progress is that it crashes my computer when you beat the first boss. Not the game - the computer. Which is pretty much why I haven't worked on it in a few weeks, as it's a real pain to test what's wrong with something when you have to reset the computer with every try.

I tried nested before, but things tend to go a bit too much to the right of the screen to my likings. And that while I'm using a 1152x864 resolution!
...But okay, yes, I get your point. It's very confusing though, I think it should be changed so you can click on a + button to see replies to that part of the topic only...

I know what you mean about things getting to the right of the screen. And I'm using 1280 by 1024 resolution!
That + button is quite a good idea I think.
