Re: Massive Lag

Anyone know what the actual system requirements are? I can't seem to find them anywhere. The reason I'm asking is that every time I try to load the game, I'm faced with massive lag. Unless I'm mistaken about my system specs, I'm running 128 on the RAM side, and the processor's roughly 500 MHz, and running a TNT2 video card. It's a long way from bein' a monster machine, but shouldn't have so much trouble with a game from 97, yah? If it's not the hardware, any suggestions on software tweaks that might fix the problem? Thanks for any help anyone can offer.
Did you install the game right? Did you install the patch?
Do you have enough space on you're HD?
Maybe you're computer has a weird virus or something like that?
Just try everything maybe it will work.

And, alas, that doesn't seem to have effected a thing. Curses!
from now on just send all nonsense computer questions to merlin and spare the rest of us the trouble
Some system requirements I found:
Pentium® 100 MHz CPU or equivalent
16 MB RAM
70 MB of free HD space
Windows® 95/98 with DirectX 5.0 or later
DirectX® 5.0 compliant Display Adapter with 2 MB video RAM
DirectX® 5.0 compliant sound card
Play the game using your keyboard or gamepad
-----
* Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP
* 486-75 or faster
* 24 MB RAM
* 50 MB Hard DriveSpace
* Sound Blaster Compatible Card (wavetable recommended for good MIDI)
* Keyboard, Joystick or GamePad (gamepad is the best)
-----
Pentium 100MHz or 100% compatible, 16MB RAM, 70 MB hard drive space, DirectX 5/6/7+ compatible video/sound cards, Windows 95

Yeah, I just found that stuff in the Readme. Bright, no? ^_^ In any event, my system specs well exceed the requirements. Ah well. I just fired off an email to Seth in regards to tech support, so maybe the master himself can help me. o.o

You know, up until now I wouldn't have thought asking for assistance with a problem it seems someone or other else may have encountered would have been considered 'nonsense'. Thanks for clearing that up. Any many thanks to those who have offered genuine assistance. It's appreciated in a big way.

You might want to check out how many background programs are running. I used to run Dink on a PII 233Mhz computer with 96MB RAM. Only very occationally would it get laggy. That usually on d-mods that had way too many scripts or sprites running on the screen at once.

Hallelujah, it works!
Who knew Firefox ate so much RAM? *blinks*

Strangely, it did it a *lot* more often when I first installed it, but I've noticed that Firefox 1.0 stays in memory every now and then, hogging a huge portion of system resources.
Don't mind poor Josh, he's just insecure and bitter.
About his rod size, or lack of technical expertise?
That reminds me of a story from my Physics class. My teacher was bemoaning the fact that calculators were supplanting Algebra skills. He said that Man would soon completely forget how to do math. I said, innocently as possible, "how would we attract females then?"
I guess you had to be there. Anyhow, it's relevant. Relevant, I tells ya!

That's an easy one to answer. By using calculators more, you release yourself from the position of the universal observer, and thus, you don't know if the girls do or do not exist.

if i have a lack of technical expertise doesnt that mean i wouldnt have to worry about my rod size?
I'm not sure it'll help, but try this:
1) Type in the address bar "about:config".
2) Right click anywhere, and pick from the menu New->Integer.
3) For name, enter "browser.cache.memory.capacity" and for value, set something rather small, such as 4096 (Will use 4 MB of RAM for cache) or 16384 (16 MB).
4) If you'd like, you can also make a New->Boolean with the name "browser.cache.memory.enable" and set it to false. It may decrease performance though, so I'd recommend using the first option. See if it helps.
