DMOD The Ultimate Challenge

I start with: Happy New Year all of you.

I have almost finished my DMOD The Ultimate Challenge.

I am now working on the end. But I have some problems with scripting on the endboss. But I will try to fix it myself. When I may not succeed myself I will put it on this board.

What will I going to do. I will release the DMOD with .d files. And later I will release the .c files. It will be handy for new dmod makers for making simple scripts. When I started it took a while before I could understand the way of scripting. So those files will be handy for new dmod makers.

The question that I wanted to put on the board:

How can I make script with and endboss and when I killed the end boss that there will be one sprite walking in the screen and start talking to dink and then the father comes in the screen and and he starts talking to DInk to. Can I put this all in one script?

Spawn another script in the boss's Die procedure, like so...

spawn("end");

Then have a script called "end", with just a main() procedure, and have all the cut-sceney crap in there.

And why, may I ask, don't you just release the d-mod with .c files? I'm sure new d-mod makers would prefer not having to download another file to view your scripts.

Ill start this off by wishing you a Merry year dinkholland, and everyone else, I am back from my leave of absence, not that many would notice as still am I new to this place.
I think that you should include both sets of files (the c and d files) in one. It might be a little bigger that way, but I agree that most would rather download them both at once. Its a little annoying having to download both of them at once, I mean Open Source (GNU and all that) software does a similar thing by offering the source code seperately, but that source code is less useful alot ot the time than your c scripting would be, and its alot bigger. So I wonder why you would bother doing it seperately exactly.

By the way folks... .d files are smaller than .c files so it is quicker to download and that is much appreciated by dialup users like myself, since with a full sized dmod it adds up quickly. Not all people need or want the .c files since not all Dink players want to make the dmods. So I agree with his seperate scripts. Although I have noticed that some dmod creators release their scripts and graphics seperately. If I use any new graphics (I am gonna recolour some Dink ones) I will release them and the sripts together.

Uhh.... hang on...

There is no point in including .d AND .c files, as the .c files would run the game, and be open source. .d are the same, but just aren't open sourced.

And Draconic, the difference between .c and .d files in size is tiny, and would make a very small difference, unless the d-mod had at least 500 scripts. Probably.

Plus, with compression, the difference between .c files and .d files is even more negligible.

Can't (In some really strange circumstances) compressing to .d cause script errors as well? I remember reading this somewhere..

I think I remember spomething similar to what emotion says, but as I've never put any scripts into .d format, I've never experienced the problem.

I have The compile.exe you get with dink is buggy. Windinkedit does better job.

It once was even so that the file with .d files was bigger then the same ones in .c. Redink1 I think it was made another file that worked good.

yes. I know. Perhaps I should have clarified that I meant quite a few hundred scripts. I have seen a few dmods like that. And at this rate mine will end up like that since a [i]lot[i] of the sprites have scripts attached to them. Almost all of them in fact.

Well, I have and use WinDinkEdit, so that won't be an issue then. I would of used it anyway since it is easier and more efficent to use one tool instead of two unless the second is more efficient than the other for a particular task. But since I didn't know if Compile.exe was better I most likely would of used WinDinkEdit out of efficiency. But now I will definetly use WinDinkEdit. Thanks.

I won't change the .c files in .d files. I will release with the .c files.

Indeed download two files is more work. So I will release it with .c files.

By the way I finished the DMOD. I will check it a few times and then I will release it.

I have decieded that I want to change some things in my dmod. So the launch of this dmod will be about a week or two.

I let missdink play it and she found a few bugs and some weird "quit to windows" things. So I will fix that.

And I am gonna make the story more clear. Now the story is to easy and the most sprites are saying the same things.
THat is quite annoying when you play the dmod.

It must be an exiting dmod.

And I want to put more sprites in it.

Is there a little help to count how man sprites there are used in a screen.
I've read that there is a maximum number of sprites in a screen. It has been set on 99 (with dink calculated when he enters the screen and for example uses fireball etc.)
What is the easiest way to count the number of sprites in a screen?

When I have finished this dmod I take a dinkholiday and then I will start with creating a new dmod. I love making one so I will do it again together with missdink. She has some interesting ideas for a dmod. I have set our target for another dmod that it becomes an epic dmod.

I have tried a lot of things and I know the way of scripting now. And of course the way of making nice detailled screens with sprites in it that walks, talk, fight etc.

I have send the dmod file to dwalma@gmail.com.

Because I could not upload it to this website.
SO I hope that he will put this dmod on this site soon.

Greetings Missdink and Dinkholland
