i used to play it, but no one around here plays it anymore so i'm selling off my collection on ebay soon. although...you can have my collection for roughly 400 dollars. i have a LOT of cards.

MTG roxored... like 10 years ago. now its just lame. lame and sad. and if you are a true MTG player you will understand me 100% in the knowlegde of how disgraceful the game has become.
i personaly think it was all downhill from exodus on out. thats when they started making rare cards gold, uncommon silver, common black. as soon as they did that... they changed the whole game, for the worse. now the rarity of a card becomes a factor as opposed to how you use a card for what its worth. the game has become a pokemon-esque duel for who can buy the most cards, get the ultimate ones, and get the most lucky with their run-of-the-mill ultimate strategy deck.
there is no skill left in the game.

Oh man...this subject...
I started playing about four years ago...at first I sucked. In one year I could then beat the people who taught me to play. Over another year I learned how the tournament system worked. The third year I played in type 2 tournaments and did very well scoring at least 50% or better usually around 75%. Then I started working (I was already in college) and I stopped playing in tournaments due to a lack of time. Its SO coincidental that this topic came up today as today I just came back from my first tournament in one year...and I owned! Not to brag though.
I love the game. The fantasy and collection part is good enough, but when you factor in that its not only a game, but a fair and balanced one it makes it classic.
HOWEVER many of the older players have complained to me that its become over commercialized and not only less fun, but less competitive as the better cards tend to be rare and simple to use so making a great deck comes down to money to buy cards that are simply better, but more expensive. I love proving them wrong though when I beat someone with a $150 deck with my $45 deck. My deck being mostly commons and uncommons since Im too poor to afford better...I resort to good deckbuilding.
Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

good deck building aint gonna do you a dang single thing against indestructable huge creatures, imprinting for infinite counterspells, or whatever the hell ultimate combo is out in the newest shenanigan deck. it doesnt matter how much strategy you have, MTG ISNT ABOUT STRATEGY ANYMORE. thats my whole point. i started playing in 1994, then the game was good. now its just junk.
i have been playing for a long time but usually on and off cause people to play come and go. now i dont play cause peoples decks are just fabulous, but i remember before that when people had all these infinite life infinite mana elf decks, they relied on these fabulous little combos that everyone else in the MTG world used but at least you could still kick their ass with a few simple cards, now they made it so you have no choice but to use all the fabulous ultimate card because if you dont, you lose.
what the hell strategy can you use against a 10/10 indestructable cannot be dealt leathal damage trample flying creature??? use the same dang card and same dang strategy to get it out, and hope you get it out first!
seriously, magic blows. play pokemon or something, its probably more fun.

I dont blame you Josh.
I also LOATHE anyone who would copy a deck. Its not fun and unimaginative that way.
My solution to this is that you find a strategy that works all around. As for what I think your refferring too (Darksteel Colossus) due to the huge amount of artifacts in the new block every deck is either artifact based or isnt, but has a few artifacts in it. My blue deck has four "Steal Artifact"'s in it. For 2 colorless and 2 blue mana I take there best artifact AND get to use it myself. Thats usually the last nail in the coffin for them.
I dont mind your rant though. Your abso'freakin loutely right! I do enjoy teaching copycats there lesson though when my ORIGINAL decks beat them...more than I lose to them.
I can only say this...just keep looking for ways to exploit cards you want to use or ideas you come up with...Ive always believed that ANY strategy will win, its just some people dont implement it to the best of their ability.

I remember when I saw your name I kinda assumed you played. It is a great name by itself though so that makes sense.

I was nuts about MTG before I got this ccomputer, and ya I agree the new style lacks style. But there is a dualing class on its own that allows you ONLY common cards + 1 uncommon. That gets back to the original spirit pretty good.
Of course that means I can't sneak in the Big Furry Monster
( I kept it and most of my collection hoping somday the prices will come back up)

I played Magic a few years ago and now it seems everyone plays. I remember when you could get rares and uncommons in one deck - now you have to buy about 5 to get the same amount.
And once I got this deck that was about 90% land. It was funny.
EDIT: And why hasn't this discussion been moved to off-topic?

I have some cards....didn't really play it
And it's not "Magic: The Gathering" it's "Magic The Gathering"

It is Magic: The Gathering.
If you two want to play a game to determine who's right go ahead...or start flaming each other!
I havent seen you two around much. Kory and Dukie.

Yeah, I usually hide in the shadows till someone misspells Magic: The Gathering
Now, Kory, that's a different story!

Now, Kory, that's a different story!
Yea, a different story. I hide in the shadows smokin' pot with Dukie and wait till someone acctualy spells anything then flamme him!
=oOoOoO

....Uh, is it at all possible to ignore Kory so you don't see his posts? That could prevent a LOT of flames...
No, but you just have to view Kory as what he is: a really ugly, annoying puppy.
