Monsters of Windemere

A while back there was a little discussion on what monsters people would like to see in Windemere.
I was just wondering how many had been made? And if there are any new races (Dwarves, Elves, Bananan people of Destruction or whatever) inhabiting Dinks world? It would sure be good to have some new non-offensive creatures in the game.
But even better if they could still have attack animations, so they could either be enemies, or just neutrals, or even fighting on Dinks side...
So?

Lets see,
A big lizard, a wierd frog man, a lion, 3 new boncas, spider queen, skeleton man, skeleton demon boss dude, 3 dwarves, 3 average people, 1 boy, 1 new pillbug, a spider, and 3 wizards.
All have 8 directions and attack sequences and a 5 frame death seq.
Also new town graphics. Once we see how they turn out in the game we may not use them all, depending on how they look. And of course more will be on the way.
I'll also release the .blend files to make it easier for others to add thier own. Blender is so handy. I put together a skeleton spider for Bane 1.2 in about 1/2 hour.

Sounds very nice! Do the dwarves have attack sequences?

Also, though this question has been asked before, is Windemere going to include an adventure with it's release?

Windemere will not include an adventure (unless somebody volunteers, which they won't (and I know because of the results of that interface contest thing - Nobody cares (Which brings me to the question of why I'm even making Windemere))).

making an adventure and making an interface are two completely different things. most people don't have the tools or know where to begin applying the tools that they have to make an interface, and even if they did, you weren't very specific at all on that contest, so everyone blew it off. but, an adventure is a more integrated thing as far as availability of tools that people would feel more comfortable doing. i'd volunteer for it.

Mmmm, pizza.
I'd join you volunteering, but it'd take some time to make an adventure worthy to be called "the sequel to Dink" (Seth'll never make a real Dink 2 now the source is released, so Windemere will be the closest possible to be called a sequel).

BUT I'd still join illusive with volunteering

I'm pretty sure that Seth recently said somewhere that he intends to create a sequel at some point, hence some of the limitations of the open-source license.

Seth has said on a few occasions that he might indeed make a proper sequel to Dink Smallwood.

Edit: Apparently Tal beat me by 5 minutes. Nooooo.

Stop being so dang pessimistic and depressed, everyone (even me) are anxiously waiting for Windemere, and most modders would be delighted to create an adventure for it. And I really think you should include one too, just to introduce people to all those new features that you have included. Most people learn Dinkc by looking at examples from the original game and dmods, so I think it's a really bad move not to include any kind of an adventure with Windemere. It wouldn't even have to be an epic or anything, it should just show off many of the new things that the engine can do. (I'm not talking of an any kind of a TMOD though, I think that would ruin the whole thing. (yeah, you can shout at me for saying that))

Indeed, nobody wanted to make an interfacce, as it's a crappy, boring thing to make.

On the other hand, making a brand spanking new adventure with the improvements Windemere will provide is something that would appeal to many. I for one would love to do so. It wouldn't be Dink 2 of course... there is no way anybody could undertake such a thing (bar Seth obviously), but just a nice solid quest.

So... if you just wanted volunteers, I'm sure there would be plenty. Including me.

And we do care Merlin, otherwise we wouldn't start topics about Windemere.

GO WINDEMERE!!

Well, if you guys are interested you'd have to start ASAP. First thing to do is the story. (A Dmod about the creation of the engine would be awesome!). I might host a chat for people who are interested on freenode or something sometime (because Spidernet is EVIL and doesn't let you use /ns. You have to type ALL /msg nickserv).

Enlist if you wish.

And I know this will probably never get finished with Sabre helping, but nonetheless he can help anyway .

I was thinking of a small town everyone could use as a base. Mabey 5 or 10 screens showing the basic graphics with basic scripts attached.

Hey, I resent that! Though it's a fair point I guess.

along with the main adventure should be a tmod, much like dink goes boating, to show the new features of dinkc++. simonk to the rescue!

This all sounds very good.

I hope Seth eventually makes a sequel to Dink.

Um...I plan on eventually making a D-MOD once I finish playing all the one's I downloaded (with Dink goes Boating last for education). I took a little C++ in high school so Im hoping it wont be too hard.

I also write great stories.

Sincerely,

a good deal of those already exist in other dmods. but, as far as the others go, consider it done. with simonk, ric, and all the others who make great graphics (as well as hopefully me soon, i still haven't created anything too impressive) it shouldn't be too much work to make all of that.

If you can take the fairies with no clothes on and make a D-mod based around them that would be good enough. Dont you all agree?

Yes, but....
when graphics are 24 or 32 bit color, and each creature has over 100 frames,( about 8 frames *8 directions, * 2 for attack seq..ect) you'll quickly find that all possible graphics may exceed 100 MB easily.
The basic engine needs graphics for all the basic people and stuff for a town, forest and a cave. But we'll probably want graphics packs with more specialised stuff that may download separatly. Like a roman gladiator pack, or an underworld pack that one or more mods can access. Yes naked fairies can go in the beach bunny pack.

Sounds excellent.

And barnabyd, what is the point of huge long lists where you just repeat yourself? Tsk.
