bands
hey, i'm a guitarist in a band that's been playing for about 3 years...anyone else musically inclined?
I play guitar for 2,5 years now.. I also can sing a little, play drums, write songs... if only I was in a band (last one didn't work)
i have played guitar for an half year
i write songs and sing as well, and my past 5 bands didn't really work out. but, illusive was the name of the one i stuck with the longest, hence my dn identity name.
a pennywhistle is a thing you blow into and it makes noise.
that actually made sense for the word but is true? A penny 4 ur thoughts
well blow me.......over. Now there's a flash from the past.
I've been playing bass guitar for... eh, three months now? I enjoy it well enough, so I think I'm going to stick with it. I'm currently in a three-piece band that has not yet made any songs. We don't even have a name, since we co-founders (J and myself) cannot agree on a name.
What kind of music do you mostly play? Trying to think of suggestions for you but some wouldn't fit certain types of music.

We're not exactly sure, but grunge is the main thing in mind. We (or at least, I) try to keep the horizons broad, though, so if you ever see "Talmadge Bradley's Greatest Hits," there'll probably be industrial, punk, hardcore, hip-hop, pant-munching, etc., just because I like to try all sorts of things.
that's the thing about most bands, and actually, most overall musicians. they set their minds on one type of music and completely ignore all of the other kinds for whatever reason. i like to be versatile and play all different kinds of music, rock, jazz, country, punk, ska (not much of emo, pop, or rap though). anyway, rock on
Get country out of there and you'd be all set.
EDIT: Oh wait, yeah, you're from *Texas*.

I think most of the best musicians vary their styles... not radically, but enough for their works to be distinguished from one another. That can't be said about many people today.
Having a country influence in music isn't so bad, but straight country pretty much sucks my balls. However, mixing country and blues is the most boring music of all time. Just take a listen to an album overrated by just about everyone, De Stijl by The White Stripes. There are three country-blues songs and two of them are in a row!
You gotta be kidding Safmoor! One of the best albums of all time according to myself and a LOT of people around the world, is EXILE ON MAIN STREET by the Rolling Stones (1972). It's a fantastic blend of Blues and Country. Go listen to some Ry Cooder stuff as well. Some of the most boring music of all time? Nope. Some of the most stupid things a person can do is making absolute statements not based on knowledge, and I believe this is a legitimate stament TILL THE END OF TIME. But, thanks God: It can be redone, so think about it, Safmoor.
And by the way, I've played the guitar for twenty years, keyboard even longer, and I've been involved in a lot of bands, playing a lot of different styles. And I write music, lyrics, and I have also acted as a producer. Never made a living out of it YET, due to work and family, but one day... I have a new project now, mixing psychedelia with punk, prog, and folkrock. Quite a blend, huh? Speaking of that: here's two bands who has really succeded in blending a lot of styles in their music: The Beatles, and Motorpsycho (Norway). Yes, some of you might find them both boring, but I don't. Oh, I could speak about music forever...

Well, geez. Safmoor saying that it's "the most boring music ever" may be a bold statement, but I think your reaction was somewhat extreme. Implying that he may be stupid? Yikes, man. It's a matter of opinion, a matter of taste. I enjoy De Stijl, and I can tolerate some of the stuff you mentioned, but I wouldn't harass anyone who feels differently.
And to say that Safmoor is not knowledgeable in the field of music is a possible mistake on your part; from what I can tell, he listens to more than most people do.

Sorry, sorry! I didn't mean to say safmoor is stupid. But his statement was, at least in my eyes. That's a big difference, and I may not have made my statement clear enough. And I make stupid statements myself now and then, we all do, don't we?
Sorry, I am not actually the most knowledgeable on the subject of music, but for the say year and three months that I have listened to music seriously, I have crammed a lot in. People literally think I am psychotic when I tell them that I have 570 albums. Anyway, I don't get my opinion on what millions of critics across the world think. If you want a country-influenced album that I recommend, try Mekons - Fear and Whiskey. Some of the songs even sound like they were made on a MIDI player. I do have a couple of Rolling Stones albums, but to be frank I don't like them all that much (especially when compared to later period Beatles[Rubber Soul and after]).
- To be fair though, I have only listened completely to probably 550 of those and I only have a definite opinion on 400-some of them.

Well then I probably can't bust you for not having knowledge... Ever heard Green on Red - Gas Food Lodging? Country flirts with punk... I'll check out the Mekons if you promise to give Exile on Main Street a chance
I'm lead guitarist (I play a Fender Strat) in a somewhat crappy band.
Man, these chicks don't even know the name of my band.
Ooooh, another Strat player! Is it a authentic made-in-USA Fender? What model?
