Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas
After watching a movie by the strangely coincidental title of this post, I decided that the risks were just too much to take to think about it, and that my intelligence quotient had lowered somewhere around a hundred points. It was then that I questioned the American Dream and if the dream was ever a reality to anyone other than stoners in their abstract states of mind. What is the American Dream? Why did so many people spend their lives trying to find it up through the 1970's? How many people actually pursued it and succeeded in finding it? What about the people who weren't Americans, but were just looking for a more peaceful way to live? Those free spirited bastages. Always jumbling my mind with questions like these.
"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit light-headed; maybe you should drive. . ." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about 100 miles an hour with the top down towards Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddang animals?"
That's a HELL of a start to a book!
As for the American Dream itself, I feel that as a non-american, I am better placed to decide what it is than any of you. And what it is, to be precise, is just an excuse to travel around the country and find "yourself". Which can take a long time when your screwed out of your eyeballs on mescolin.

The dream was supposed to be "become all you can be", and many imigrants flocked to america for its freedom to become. As one cynic pointed out, the dream has turned into "Have all you can get". With all the ambulance chasing lawers and baseball players who pout if they make less than $20M/year, its easy to be a cynic, but hey, its the only country in the world where a poor black boy can grow up to be a rich white b**ch.
*edit*
I didn't think of that. It was some comedian talking about M Jackson.

i'd like to get some of that ether and then fly to the moon
Take enough of that stuff and the moon will come to you. And probably hurt you.
Any of you remember how I posted about Fear and Loathing about a year ago and you said how much it sucked? - Right Here
N0, WC said it sucked. And OkalyDDude concured. Nobody else cared very much.
But the film is class, and the book is better. I'm so happy that somebody else has seen "Requiem for a Dream" as well, that film is el fantastico!!

Ah sabre, You may have no taste in music, but you seem to have good taste in movies.
No taste in music? Hey, I didn't say I liked Britney and Justin Trousersnake (or whatever the fudge he's called). Just that they are very skilled at playing the industy to make money.
And I have FANTASTIC taste in films.

dude. that's one of my favorite movies. darren aronofsky is genius. have you seen pi?
That's good to know safmoor. These films must NOT be ignored!
Also, I saw Four Rooms last week, very nice movie. I had been looking for it for years! I hope everyone has seen this forgotten gem with 25% Tarantino?!
I've seen about 15 minutes of that film, so I can't really have a valid opinion on it. But I'll be sure to watch the film in it's entirety if it's that good.
I saw some of it with my dad a few years ago. Thanks for the film recomendations. Regarding te American Drean, listen to Americana by the Offspring (the song, not the cd thats named after it)
Well I'd like to tell about/
my dream, it's a place/

Where culture's defined by the/

And you'll be left behind/
If you don't fit in/
It's all distorted/
In Americana my way/
well my dream has come true/
my vision has come true

Hah, to tell you the truth, the first cd I ever bought was Americana by the Offspring. I was only a casual music fan until about a year ago. - Drake, If you want to listen to some good punk, listen to Bad Brains debut. A good portion is reggae, but in my opinion it is structured to be the perfect moshing album. Anyway, hopefully you'll eventually listen to deeper and deeper music. So start looking at All Music Guide and maybe you'll get a better knowledge of music as a whole.
I realize that you are on a completely different level as me as far as music. So I realize that talking with you about music isn't very productive. I will try to win over punk fans though.
Oh, and have you ever noticed how often the music from Pi and Requiem have been used? It just goes to show that Clint Mansell is awesome at scoring movies and big corporations have no creativity.
You don't even know what music I listen to.
Though you are right, it probably isn't too similar.
You are of course correct about the music from Requiem, that is everywhere.
And rightly so, because it is fantastic.
