My review of Computer Virus has 276 words and is a good review, whereas my review of Forest of Dangers has 260 words and is a excellent review. So if it isn't in the ammount of words what classifies a good review as good and an excellent one as excellent?

I was the one who validated your Computer Virus review, but not your Forest of Dangers review. To be honest, my standards for reviews are probably higher than those of other staff members', so it's hard for me to dub a review excellent. I thought your Computer Virus review was well written, yet short, hence the good branding.

I'll let redink1 resolve this.

Word or character count doesn't have anything to do with Good/Excellent designation. Its a very tenuous thing... one day I might feel a review is Good, and another I might feel the same exact review is Excellent. But there are usually only a few of them that are in this middle-ground.

Basically, an excellent review should be quite good in the mechanical areas of spacing, layout, grammar, and spelling. It should also make sense, and be long enough for the D-Mod. An Epic should have a pretty substantial review, whereas a review for a Romp will be much shorter.

Of course, that's only the way I validate reviews, others probably do so differently.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that size doesn't matter, as long as it provides a justified critical viewpoint. There's no point in a 2000 word review that stretches itself thin in order to cover all the points (even the irrelevant/uninteresting ones) like a sheet of clingfilm.

I never counted the words in my reviews, this was the first time ever. But since I wrote quite a few, I sort of automatically know if it's an excellent or a good one - although I cannot help seeing them as long and short ones , perhaps because they are? - anyway, since I thought it was one kind, but it turned out to be the other one, I wondered what they were validated on. Not that I actually care what they are: it's so much better then way back when you used to get points for writing them.
