What keeps you playing Dink?

The nation above all
There are few games that I keep going back to. Dink Smallwood is one of them. I started thinking: Why do I still play this obscure 1997/98 video game? I like it, obviously, but why is this specific one among the few of those I still play from time to time? I could not really find the answer.
So, I would like to ask: What makes you to still play this game?

Frankly, I don't really play Dink a lot anymore. I usually try out new dmods, but rarely finish them. It's mostly the community, and the fact I know DinkC pretty well at this point and enjoy talking about scripting that keeps me coming back.

I still dabble with dmodding sporadically. I know enough programming to create messy standalone games, but the Dink engine is a nice, stress-free comfort zone.

I just like the opportunity to explore new worlds and new quests thought of by others. For someone as "housebound" as I, it is nearly like exploring in the real world, though much safer.

The sense of accomplishment that comes with fulfilling a quest is something I look forward to as well.

Oh, and one more thing... the price is right (effectively free).

Never be afraid to ask, but don't demand an answer

Dude, you need to find yourself a different programming language if DinkC is more stress-free.

For me, I like that there are so many adventures, that Dink is not pure good or evil, so authors have a lot of freedom with his personality.

But mostly, I just like the type of game, and with all the D-Mods by different people, there's a lot of variation which keeps it interesting.

that's weird. thinking about it now, i don't recall a time where dink seemed out of character. he can be stupid, a total asshole, both, or a paragon of holy might or something and it works. (although i don't think he was ever a paragon of holy might).

Tag - Umm.. tag, you're it?
I havent played for a while but i open the editor on occasion and have a look.. does that count? I think cause its mindless neat fun and the humour always cracks me up.

and i have one almost completed too Rabidwolf made an awesome wee script for me (a few years ago now lol) which HAS to see the light of day - its awesome and not done here before - whats holding me up now is that i forgot how to script lol cant even remember how to place a bleedin sprite how embarrassing... it started as a quest but if i trim it all the way back it should be almost done as a long romp haha. I even made a field where u have to smak bunnies that pop up in farmer dinks field (graphics are cute with that one heh)lots of my fav substance blaahd...

Ah well if i did finish it then what would i have to look forward to

I come back mainly because the community as well, I see you guys as some of my close friends and even though we fight at times, it still feels a great family. Even though I haven't played any of the dmods recently since I can't load them on Ubuntu and I also divert my time to other games like Xbox 360, but I can still keep up in spirit.

LOOK UPON MY DEFORMED FACE!
It would be interesting to add a counter to DFarc to count how many days since a certain mod was last played, similar to how the Windows uninstaller works since I suspect the last one I touched was Fishy.dmod.

Because I promised myself that I would make a quest/epic before I stopped.

I still intend to fulfill said promise, though I have 60 odd years to get round to it.
