Re: Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis/Mega Drive?
I'm not one for the console wars, in fact both have their merits, but there is a lot more nostalgic value connected to the Sega Genesis for me. I recently started an LP with my brother Daniel, of the Sega Genesis game 'Streets of Rage' ( Link ), I used to love playing this game co-op, because it's one of those games where you can also hit each other, and you would usually end up raging at your ally.
I also think the Sonic game's soundtracks kick Nintendo's ass. Chemical Plant Zone Sountrack FOR THE WIN. Although, I'm not saying Nintendo didn't have some awesome soundtracks as well, one of the most memorable/nostalgic soundtracks for me from the SNES is Stickerbrush Symphony from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong's Quest

I love the Sega Genesis. I recently reacquired one, and I bought all the Sonic games off of Amazon for it, just because it's a ducking Sega Genesis and Sonic is the shiz. One of my top favorite video game soundtracks of all time is from Sonic 2. Every song is amazing. Every single one. My favorite would be either Emerald Hill or Oil Ocean. Sonic 3D Blast on the Genesis has another of my all time favorite tracks, being Panic Puppet Zone Act I, which was also remixed and used in Sonic Adventure. Old school Sonic is just the best.
The games I ended up getting:
Sonic the Hedgehog 1
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Sonic & Knuckles
Sonic Spinball
Sonic 3D Blast
Worth it.
Also, Chemical Plant Zone ear candy. Enjoy.
Edit: My post just had the 's' word uncensored for a moment. I changed it myself. Something broke O_o

Super Nintendo for me. There are plenty of great games on the Sega Genesis, but I found games like Super Mario World, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, Terranigma, Kirby Super Star, etc. to be more exciting and impressive and have enjoyed the music more personally than the equivalent things I've seen on Sega (Yes, Stickerbrush Symphony was a great one. I can't believe after all this time they got David Wise, the composer for the original Donkey Kong Country games to compose for DKC: Tropical Freeze on the Wii U. The music and the game is just awesome, by the way. Hard, but awesome).
Both systems are certainly great though, I bet I know a Sega Genesis (technically Sega CD) game that no-one here has played that is absolutely awesome. It has a really lame name though, but don't let that fool you, it's a hilarious side-scrolling action-RPG kind of like Wonder Boy in Monster World except I think it's even better. It's also a remake to a game which sounds like it didn't have nearly as much of a sense of humor in it, but I can't be sure because I never played it. Oh right, the name; it's called Popful Mail. Hmm, come to think of it, I'm starting to feel like I've mentioned this game before.

The soundtracks to DKC 1 and 2 pretty much won that console war.
Can't pick either. Neither console really has any nostalgic value to me, because gaming wasn't too popular here before the PS1 came along. One of my friends did used to have an SNES, and we used to play Donkey Kong Country and Super Mario World, so if I was to go by pure nostalgia, I'd have to pick SNES.
However, looking by what both consoles have to offer, they're pretty much equal. I'd have to say SNES has more great games, but when Genesis nails it, they really nail it in a way SNES can't match.

To be fair I've had way more experience playing Super Nintendo, so that definitely influences my opinion. I'm very interested in hearing what everyone's favorite Genesis games are, because if they are good enough (and I haven't already played them) I might just have to check them out sometime...

SEGA KID 4 LYFE
Sonic. Ecco the Dolphin. Toejam and Earl. Streets of Rage. Ristar. Wonder Boy. Rocket Knight Adventures. Phantasy Star. Dynamite Headdy.
Hey newguy, I've played Popful Mail. I still quote Sven T. Uncommon and people have no idea what I'm on about.

Hahahaha, amazing! Let me tell you something punky chops...
It has to be some of the most amazing over-the-top voice acting I've ever heard in a game... It's the one time there's no option to speed up cutscenes in a game where I didn't give a crap.
Seriously guys, If you have some free time and like bad jokes (and you like Dink, so it's a given), Grab a Sega CD emulator and *ahem* perhaps procure the rom from somewhere.
I watched the Sven T. Uncommon cutscene again and now I can't stop laughing...

SNES was the superior system in terms of capabilities and generally my favored system as it had much better games over a longer period of time, whereas Sega started flounder in their system's twilight years. Still, in their early days, they were neck and neck and I too had excellent memories of playing Streets of Rage 2 with friends.
As far as music goes... I'm also going to have to hand it to the SNES for better synths and probably a wider library of games with good music. They basically had a lock on Square and Enix during the 16-bit era. That's a bunch of amazing soundtracks right there. The music in Sonic just isn't enough to even touch Nobuo Uematsu or Yasunori Mitsuda... though you could make an argument for Yuzo Koshiro (though he did stuff for both Sega and Nintendo systems).
