Daniel, there are clowns. 
SNES was the superior system in terms of capabilities and generally my favored system as it had much better games over a longer period of time, whereas Sega started flounder in their system's twilight years. Still, in their early days, they were neck and neck and I too had excellent memories of playing Streets of Rage 2 with friends.

As far as music goes... I'm also going to have to hand it to the SNES for better synths and probably a wider library of games with good music. They basically had a lock on Square and Enix during the 16-bit era. That's a bunch of amazing soundtracks right there. The music in Sonic just isn't enough to even touch Nobuo Uematsu or Yasunori Mitsuda... though you could make an argument for Yuzo Koshiro (though he did stuff for both Sega and Nintendo systems).
