can i use a wingpad controller on the game or is it strictly keyboard
You can use a joystick. Game controllers are probably presented to the system as such, so I think they should work. There's only one way to be sure, though.

do i have to do a certain setup? i cant seem to get my wingpad to work with the game
Currently, as far as I know, nobody has tried any game pads, except maybe a joystick. I suggest messing around with it and seeing if you can do something with it.
You could also try to contact RTSoft directly. The link to the RTSoft site is under the Partners section with the image that says Robinson Technologies.

Have you tried setting up the buttons in the escape menu?
Most PC controllers can emulate keyboard/mouse commands anyway... try looking in the settings for the controller itself and assign keys to different buttons.

Actually, I play Dink Smallwood using a Playstation 2 controller with an ancient USB adapter. So I think it isn't terribly picky.

I've done the same, except I used a PS3 controller. Which is even easier since it comes with a USB cord, to begin with. I'd say, after having gotten used to the keyboard so well, it was harder to play with a controller.

That makes me wonder, will Seth ever remake Dink for a system, people have fond memories of it.
I always wonder if Seth will make an updated re-release with everything that he planned for the game to go into it.
Even Charlie.
Especially Charlie.

If I ever got the chance to interview Seth for Dinkerview, I'd definitely have asked what were some of his original ideas for Dink before he had to cut them. There's so much interesting stuff there. The snow area, the thief guy from PortTown and PortTown in general, Charlie. Most of all I'm interested in what was Seth's original plans for the final boss.

It'd be interesting to get the original plans, or better, talk with him personally and get every little idea he had for the game and then remake it exactly as he wanted it to be.

These ideas have crossed my mind more than a few times, too.
Allegedly (I can't remember where I read this) the large island east of Windemere was supposed to contain Port town. I really can't remember where I got this information from, sorry.
Now that I think about it, is it possible to access that island ? I don't remember ever going there.

Maybe we can spam him with requests for Dink Smallwood 3
Let's not spam Seth. Not only would it not be nice, it's totally unnecessary.
What if we message him "nicely" about it, possibly with a plastic knife next to a cabinet picture attached.
@Skull, have you even played it yet,
Played what? Are you talking about Mystery Island? I remember when I called it Dink 2. I got flamed up the ass so hard for calling it that, cause apparently it's just a "D-Mod by RTSoft", and not actually Dink 2. Though now I kinda understand why it's considered to be like that.
Seth should try and make another.
He sort of did when he made the novashell game creator.
