Competition: make a D-Mod from scratch in 48h?
Ludum Dare is a competition where talented game authors try and make a complete game from scratch in 48h.
Seth regularly participated at this event, and I myself attempted something at the training event last week.
Over time the rules relaxed the "from scratch" part, so instead of rewriting all your base code each time, you're now allowed to use about any game making libraries and software! GameMaker for instance is regularly used by competitors.
Does this include Dink? Maybe not if you reuse the base graphics and sounds, but certainly if you do your own!
(you can also participate in the even more relaxed "Jam" event, but there's no votes and hence no winners there - and it's lame
)
If you've been working on a DMod for months (years) but never got to release it, this is an excellent training to improve your finishing skills (did you read the finishing a game article by the way?).
The next Ludumdare is in 2 weeks. Who's in?

Why not jump in at the deep end? I'm overdue to release something and I've little better to do - it's on
That sounds like a lot of fun! A bit required that everything goes smoothly all the way to get it done in time, though.
I might give it a try, depending on how much work I have.

Hmm... Wouldn't using the dink engine make it a mod rather then a new game? You will need to install the original game to play a DMOD making it hardly a stand-alone game.
Anyway I won't be entering mainly because I just suck at both graphics and sounds (both of them are required to be made during the competition). So getting all those things done wouldn't be achievable for me anyway. A 48h DMOD making contest where you are allowed to use all the base graphics does sound interesting...

A bit off-topic, but maybe we could have some sort of "Make a D-Mod in 2-5 days" contest here? It could be fun. A little "Christmas gift" (some new small mods) for the community.

Yes! Amen to Marpro's idea!
