Dink Smallwood HD - Lags And Glitches
Dink Smallwood HD lags horribly on my PC. Also, there is no text, just blocks of colours appear above people's heads, and the tiles change to that colour. There is no sound. My PC is 866 MHz, 256 MB RAM, Intel Graphics Controller 82108E Something.
I downloaded it, it still lags, it takes 5 minutes to get out of Dink's house, the TAB button does nothing, there's nothing so HD-ish about the graphics(well, maybe Dink's pants are a bit brighter), the only HD thing is the text, which now displays, and doesn't change the tile colour.
Must be your computer, mine works like a charm.
Slow, computer is slow.
I agree. That must be it. I just tried it on my Dad's laptop 1.73 GHz and it sped along.
It might not be "HD" graphics, but they're now scalable to any resolution and have some anti-aliasing added to it *I think*.
Anyway, runs like a charm on mine.

Yeah, HD may be a bad name as the graphics are not changed other than the menus. It does do anti-aliasing as Kyle mentioned.
The HD game from the iOS world where "HD" is a loose term to mean "optimized for iPad" and I'm sort of just keeping the name around to separate old-dink from new-dink, as all the HD versions (iOS, Android, Win) share the same feature set.
The HD version is GL and designed for newer computers. The latest GL drivers for your video card might help.

I think the graphics appear to be improved, i have both the HD and the v1.08 and though not a hug difference so far, the edges seem to be smoothed and the color looks a bit better. oh and i just started playing today and i noticed the Dink's bed doesn't give a text when you talk button it
The HD version is optimized for newer computers (bought in the last six years or so?) for older stuff stick with the old version as it can run in low color modes and doesn't require 3d acceleration at all.
About the bed script, yeah I noticed that too and forgot to fix it. It's not a bug in the engine, I actually broke the script when I was using it to test something else I guess, because after "decompiling" it I see this:
The "talk" text (when not burning) is actually missing. Oops.

Um....will somebody help me?

The beta version worked fine except that when i loaded a quick save i had about the seconds to do something then it stops responding
In this version as soon as it opens up i see the title screen for about 1 1/2 seconds and i see continuing the last game screen and it stops responding
bought this mini laptop last month
it has windows 7 starter

did u install the new version over the beta or did u uninstall beta 1st.
if the continue last game state.dat file was originally made by beta, then maybe its not supported in the new version
try to see if it works after deleting all the save game files and states from the game folder. or better uninstall it and remove all remaining files and then make a new clean install.
hope it helps

Help! I just got caught by a bug playing blackjack in 3 amulets! I can move back and forth between "stand" and "hit me", but cannot select either one, and thanks to dink HD's auto-continue feature, closing and re-opening the game just brings me back to the bug-prison! Even deleting the mod didn't help, because it still tried to restore data that was no longer there and crashed! What do I do? Is there some way of disabling auto-continue? (I hope so, as it generally seems to be more trouble than it's worth - sorry Seth ) Please, somebody HELP ME!!
You should start a new thread for that, n00b forum user.

This sounded like the right one to me, as my problem is a glitch involving Dink HD and the forum subject is Dink Smallwood HD - Lags and Glitches (at least until a few posts ago when some joker changed it to gags and cliches). If you don't have anything constructive to say, please don't be condescending, rude and hurtful. It only makes YOU look bad. Although I don't post often, I am not a total noob. I post if I can help someone else or if I really need help myself, as I do today. That's what these forums are for, and if you don't realise this, perhaps it is you who is the noob. To everybody else, please forgive the rant - rude and hurtful replies really get under my skin.
This had nothing to do with the general thread, and was also a necro. Post a new thread defining your problem. And don't start a flame war before you even have an account
BTW, notice the " "?
BTW, notice the " "?
I don't think it qualifies as a necro, since the last post in the thread had been less than a month ago.
Anyhow, put the mod into the folder again and, instead of closing the game, press ESC and then click Quit. Then fire up the dmod again if you so wish, and you will be given a choice of whether or not to continue it where you last were.

It seems to have fixed itself anyway - it came up normally this time and didn't auto-continue. I'm not sure why, but the important thing is that I can play Dink again
Shadowsil, you posted in the right thread, even if it was a month old. Skorn, you should really shuddup. You just got epicly pwnd by a "n00b forum user".
Shadowsil, just remember that whenever you close the game while playing a dmod or the main game, the next time it starts it will try to continue from there. If you quit the dmod, and only exit the program in the menu, this won't happen.

Hello,
I try to play Dink Smallwood HD with my mini laptop which has Windows 7 Starter - I get the main screen showing the options for new game etc., but as I try to click any of them, nothing happens. I've also tried the whole keyboard through, but nothing happens. Where are my controls?
Has the game itself some specific system requirements (which I cannot find anywhere) or is the problem somewhere in the user of this laptop?
I wish someone could help me even though I didn't create a profile to prove that I am not a troll.

The controls are standard - mouse/ LMB, arrow keys, Ctrl to select/ attack, Enter key for inventory, Esc for menu, Shift for magic.
It may be a compatability issue with Windows 7.
Over to the pros on this subject....

So the controls should be same as they were in the old Dink. But nopes, the game won't react in them. Nor in anything else. Dammit, do I have to satisfy to the fact that this version of Dink doesn't work with Windows 7 Starter...
Thank you, schnapper, for your help.

It works fine for me on Windows 32-bit. Contact Seth about it, he's fast with responses usually
If you play on windows I don't recommend dinkHD, not all dmods works in it. For mobile devises on the other hand it's the only choice.

Many thanks for advice, I'll contact him right away.
I've played old Dink a lot and for testing I downloaded it also into this mini laptop. The game worked without any difficulties. I'd just be eager to test the new version, along with the DMODs.
It's nice to see there's friendly people in here, willing to help those in need of advice.
Wishing you all the best,
Fang

It's true that not all d-mods work without glitches on DinkHD. However, any new d-mods should be tested on both platforms in my opinion. I develop mine for DinkHD in the first place.
Dink HD (HDink, as I like to call it, heh) is very cool, but I think it's kinda useless, unless you don't have a computer but only an iPhone. It's also not good as a "new version" cause it adds more errors than it fixes.
HDink sounds cool
I don't enjoy playing it on iPhone as much as on computers. It's probably because they are unreliable and my fingers get in the way of everything. I don't trust virtual pads on touchscreens. Nothing beats physical buttons.

Yeah, that's how I feel too. With a real time action game like Dink, you need precise controls.
