That's cool that you guys had him for so long. He got to spend time with all of you. My neighbor had to put hers down b/c of health too, she was going blind and such. At least he's not suffering anymore. Remember the good times.

Daniel, there are clowns.
My dog died around last Christmas. I do wish I had been there, too, though, when we last parted, I knew it would likely be the last time I would see her. It's always sad when your awesome fuzzball (or not-so fuzzball) leaves this world. You have my sympathies.

Right. Did you guys bury or cremate him? Either way you can still "talk" to him. (where ever you are really.) Animals are living, they have souls. I bet he can hear you.

Aww, I'm sorry Striker. Holidays somehow make it sadder don't they? My thoughts go out to both of you.

My first cat ran away when I was little, I had another at one point we got from a lady who was moving to an apartment and couldn't take him. My grandparents gave him away to the humane society when he bit my grandpa's arm (my grandpa was trying to get him into a carrying case b/c my mom was going to be keeping him while we were on vacation. I live with my grandparents.) So it wasn't really the cat's fault..he was just freaked out and it wasn't like he had rabies or anything...Other then that I've only had goldfish die..one jumped out of it's bowl..found it on the ground the next morning. I was like 11 or 12. I know fish aren't really the same as pets like cats or dogs, but it made me sad..fishie suicide.

Man, losing your pet is always tough. But in the end, you'll smile whenever you think of the good times you spent with him/her.

Yeah, but all living things die. Not to be morbid. Like Christiaan said, just have to treasure the good times and keep the memories.

This thread is making me miss all the loved ones (including fishies) I've lost. Not that I don't miss them anyways, just making me think about it more.

Let me heat that up for you...
Recently, our cat (which we had raised since he was born) had dissapeared for a while. At first we thought it was just him going otu for a little while as he usually does. But days passed and we still hadn't seen him. We went out to look for him, my younger siblings (6 and 7 years) couldn't find him. My father found him, lying by the highway that runs by the back of our house. He didn't tell my siblings. My mother wen't out to check and came back saying, it was him. My parents told me not to tell my brother or sister what had happened.

A week later, my sister still calls out for him, and the mother cat still seems depressed. He was only six months old.

At first I felt sad, but then I thought of all the good times we had. After all, how could you not laught at a cat named Shoulder Cat... Yeah, long story short when he was born my sister wanted to call him "Ben" my mother wanted to call him "George", but I always used to carry him on my shoulder, so I called him "Shoulder Cat". The name just stuck, and eventually we all started calling him Shoulder Cat. He even came when called.

Despite being so young, we had so much good time together.

i had a dog named ayla she was a beutifull german shepard, i loved her like a sister, my parents got her before i was even born she was also like a nanny to me and my sis as we were growing up, she never let us out of her sight when we went outside to play, she was a loyal smart and obedient dog, she got along great with our cat too. ther used to cuddle up together at night. i miss my dog she was my best friend. she died happy and free when we moved to raro, the whole family cried when she died.

I might not understand perfectly how you feel, cause I don't like animals all that much. But I still feel sorry for you.

This thread brings back so many happy memories. Like when I saw puppies being born, holding a newborn kitten, being licked all over as they swarm ya... (Wipes tears from eyes) Watching kittens play fight, cuddling up with a puppy or kitten. Good memories. :')

Sorry to hear about your dog bornfree, I remeber you said in the chat that he wasn't well

Fireball your Shoulder Cat reminds me of ours: when our cat had kittens we said we were definitely getting rid of them at eight weeks old, better not get too attached, so we just called them Number One, 2, 3, 4.

Almost nine years later and they have the same names

@Sparrowhawk:

You never got rid of them? We only kept one of our kittens, the first litter had six and the second litter had seven kittens, so we ended up giving away twelve kittens.
