Running Dinkedit
Okay, well, I installed Dink the other day on a Linux Ubuntu 9.10 machine via Wine.
I can't find any way to run Dinkedit, at all. !?
Also, I downloaded WinDinkedit (and WinDinkedit Pro) and neither of them appear to work through Wine.
Can anyone tell me how to install WinDinkedit on Linux, or run Dinkedit?

It's better to use GNU FreeDink; then you can run freedinkedit to run DinkEdit. I haven't tried WinDinkEdit on Linux through Wine.
I went into Wine's imposter C: drive and found the Dinkedit .exe file, and ran that by right clicking and Run with Wine Windows Program Loader.
However, it didn't work very well; there was flickering pixels at the top of the screen, and when I tried to do something, it froze.
FreeDink is in the Ubuntu repository, but it says it doesn't contain that actual game (just the engine). Can I download the main game as I would a Dmod?
I have Windows installed too, but it's so slow I need to reformat before I bother installing anything on it. I guess I should do that...
Is Windinkedit a LOT better than Dinkedit, or just a little bit? If it's a lot better I'll install Dink on Windows, if not, I'll ust GNU FreeDink instead.
EDIT: Okay, well, I downloaded FreeDink and it's working, but..
how to make a new Dmod? All I seem to be able to do is edit the main game.

WinDinkEdit is only better if you prefer buttons and windows instead of hitting key strokes. In terms of D-Modding, I prefer the latter (DinkEdit) because it works a lot faster once you know the keys.
I wouldn't put it like that. WinDinkEdit has other important advantages. It has the multi-screen layout that make making matching screens a breeze, and generally save you from making very stupid screen-match mistakes.
Also, if you're editing using WinDinkEdit you can always choose not to safe your work if you did something stupid. Also an advantage, especially for me.

I'll use Dinkedit for now, it seems to work fine except that I only seem to be able to edit the main game...
I don't know how to make a new D-mod... anyway!
Hopefully I will have made a REALLY cool D-mod by the end of next year.

Can you use your' "Run" or "Command Prompt" option?
Uh, yes. I tried "Run" and that didn't work but I can open it through Terminal. H'm. Curious.
Or do you mean make a new map with Command Prompt/Terminal?

D:\Dink\dinkedit.exe -GAME Work
That's what i dump into my "run" option, where Work is the working name of the DMOD. For example, if you were opening Cycles of Evil, you'd replace Work with COE, not Cycles of Evil. Of course, your Dink folder would probably be in C:\Program Files\Dink Smallwood, not D:\Dink

Yes. Although it's actually an impersonation of the C: drive created by Wine

Download EasydinkC, It has a program for setting up a clean dmod, the open dfarc select your dmod and press the edit buttom.

About this: it's like other game binaries not shipping with the resources, but automatically installing those resources from a seperate package anyway. It'll work, as you have found out.
