Updated D-mod Demo: The Other World
Posted by WC on Tuesday July 2nd, at 01:24 PM
CrapFish..I mean mimifish strikes again, this time updating The Other World -- Nature BattleFields Trailer to version 1.1 . Good ol' mimifish says that he doesn't have much free time anymore so he probably wont finish this d-mod, which is a shame because I looked forward to it But anyway, download this one hell of a demo and maybe it will inspire you in your d-mods!

New Dev Utility: Sprite Replacer v0.21
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday July 2nd, at 07:38 PM
Paul Pliska has created a very useful tool called Sprite Replacer v0.21. Basically, it is a Find/Replace tool for sprites in any D-Mod. So if you accidently make all of your grass sprites hard and no-hit set to 0, then you can quickly change them all to non-hard and no-hit set to 1. What before was hours of monotony is now a few seconds of form-filling fun. It has advanced features like ranges, and is a useful tool for any D-Mod author.

Also, because this is currently a work-in-progress, it might have a very slight possibility of messing up your map.dat file (no problems have been reported, though). Backup before you use it.

New Dev File: Spells & Items Pack
Posted by Tal on Thursday July 4th, at 11:41 AM
AmoebaLord has released a Spells & Items Pack. It contains icons for the inventory as well as scripts, but alas, no new graphics. Instead, he utilizes graphics included with Dink.

Also, my apologies to AmoebaLord. I got this up about two weeks after he sent it.

Link to the file should now work correctly - redink1.

Updated Dev Tutorial: DinkC Reference v3.0
Posted by redink1 on Saturday July 6th, at 07:41 PM
Ted Shutes has released Dink C Reference v3.0, which includes the following updates:
New in this version: lotsa corrections, new insights from ManaUser and from new contributors, Tatiana "Tyrsis" Ryzhova and Sylvain Beucler. I have also completely rearranged "Part 2: List of Internal Procedures". I hope it will be easier to find command information in the new format.
Ted says a couple of his other projects are nearing completion, so we might get more from him soon. Cool.

New Dev Tutorial: The Rudiments of Scripting
Posted by redink1 on Saturday July 6th, at 07:51 PM
bin has created a pretty cool Rudiments of Scripting tutorial. This beginner's tutorial is focused on making DinkC easy for newbie programmers. It is about 40 pages, and it includes a T-Mod where scripts from the tutorial are used. Very cool.

Current Events: WC hates you!
Posted by WC on Monday July 8th, at 01:47 AM
That’s right, I hate you, and when I say ‘Hate’, I mean absolutely hate, and when I say ‘you’, I mean all of you point whores! This Current Events briefing will hopefully get down to the bottom of what point whoring is, and who it is, and hopefully stop most of it before we have to lock down all the rules on this site so tight that you couldn’t drive a 6 penny nail up our behinds with a sledge hammer and a whole tube of KY. Also, we have pretty pictures of Alex and Sharp, the two love birds are so cute together. View comments to read all about.

Discussion Twelve : Care to read a book?
Posted by Kyle on Tuesday July 9th, at 06:15 AM
I should have called this discussion eleven, since the previous discussion was a rip off and a propaganda stunt to convince people hosting walkthroughs at the DN would be best, but that would confuse people who're looking at the articles section. So, here we have discussion twelve. Read the comments to see what it's about.

Beta Testers Roster Online
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday July 10th, at 07:46 AM
Tullisti has created a very cool Beta Testers Roster which will help connect D-Mod Authors wishing to have D-Mods tested, and beta testers themselves. Tullisti would like you to know that he is open to suggestions and improvements. And people have to be serious when filling out the tester quota AND they have to test the files! If they can't test, they can always make themselves invisible to the system, and they wont be picked. Also, developers are asked to reward the testers somehow, either by an email, or a mention in the credits...

Sounds cool.

Fake News: The Morrowind Network Launches
Posted by redink1 on Saturday July 13th, at 08:25 PM
Fake News Begin

Due to simply excessive suggestions using our very own complaint system, The Dink Network will drop all Dink Smallwood related content starting July 32nd, and completely switch over to the much-better RPG Morrowind. Sure, Gamespy already has a Morrowind site, but they need two!

For more, read the comments.

New Dev Graphics: SuperWolfman's Button Pack
Posted by Tal on Tuesday July 16th, at 12:51 PM
My good friend SuperWolfman has released a button pack, something you don't see often. Come to think of it...something you don't see at all. "Unique", if you will.

It contains a large variety of Start, Load, and Quit buttons for authors to use in their D-Mods. The buttons come in all sorts of pretty styles and colors, so if you want it, then get to downloading it.

New Misc Cheat File: Mimifish God Mode
Posted by WC on Friday July 19th, at 12:33 PM
Our good mimifish has released another file Mimifish God Mode. Usually I would call him a whore and throw stuff at him, but I found this to actually be of some use.

This is my version of God Mode. I understand that there are 3 different God Mode cheat files in DN, but since none of them really live up to name of "God", I think my file does make Dink live forever (unless the story really tell Dink to die).

New D-Mod Demo: Legend of the Pillbug (The)
Posted by redink1 on Friday July 19th, at 07:12 PM
Nam Hoang has released his first D-Mod, The Legend of the Pillbug Demo. There wasn't a description included with D-Mod, so I'm afraid I can't tell you what it is about.

This game will mow you away!!
Posted by Dukie on Sunday July 21st, at 05:46 AM
Everybody's favorite small developer Rtsoft has got a new game in development, called Teenage Lawn Mower. It sounds good, it looks good, check it out! Now if only the huge developers were as original as Rtsoft, we'd have a lot more good games, there would be no wars and maybe no world hunger.

Recondite Twelve: Recollections
Posted by redink1 on Monday July 22nd, at 08:15 AM
Recondite is my article, and is supposed to be weekly (though it is never released on a schedule) and is usually a whole lot of crazy words. This Recondite is a little different; I dug up a whole bunch of old web page backups I happened to find on a CD, and have created a 'history of The Dink Network through screenshots', if you will. And of course, poll comments are within. Read the comments for more.

Updated D-Mod: DOEM v1.1
Posted by Tal on Monday July 22nd, at 04:59 PM
JVeenhof has released DOEM v1.1, which he says is a fairly large update to the original DOEM. The D-Mod has been expanded, the fair majority of it has been spellchecked (courtesy of me ), and JVeenhof now dubs it as the unofficial sequel to the Slaughterhouse. So to anyone who disliked the original DOEM, give it another go.

New D-Mod: The Search for the Treasure
Posted by redink1 on Thursday July 25th, at 05:16 PM
Vilius offers temporary relief from the great D-Mod drought of July 2002 with the release of a new D-Mod, The Search for the Treasure. There wasn't a description included (yeah, I even checked the dmod.diz file Tal), but it seems that Dink might search for treasure in this D-Mod... just a hunch

The Dink Network: Server Trouble
Posted by WC on Thursday July 25th, at 06:44 PM
UPDATED (11:08PM PST): The server appears to be back up, but if it goes down again, you won't be able to download from File Planet. If this happens, try a mirror!

Also, The Dink Network is having trouble being displayed from http://www.www.dinknetwork.com. Gamespy is playing with the banners again, and if you can't access it you may get to it from http://www.dinknetwork.com sorry!

New D-mod : New Shores : The Maori
Posted by Kyle on Sunday July 28th, at 05:55 PM
Tallis and me have released a romp d-mod called New Shores : The Maori. It's been used as a school project so don't expect too much from it. However, since we're dry on d-mods this will offer you a nice little diversion. Go download it here.

Updated Dev File: Sprite Replacer 1.0
Posted by WC on Sunday July 28th, at 08:35 PM

This release is jammed packed with new features and this release brings it up to version 1.0! This is a 1.77 meg download so you 56k users better activate download resumers and get at it before AOL drops you!

Recondite Thirteen: Moribund
Posted by redink1 on Monday July 29th, at 03:07 PM
Thirteen is usually a bad omen, and so this Recondite has a quasi-'bad omen' theme. In it, I discuss the latest poll comments/results, Ask Tal, Jveenhof's Death...

Recondite is my weekly article, where I type all sorts of weird things, usually with a Dink Smallwood tie. View the comments to read it.

New D-Mod: A Knight's Tale
Posted by redink1 on Monday July 29th, at 07:14 PM
Taking a cue from SimonK's mini-romp experiment, SabreTrout has released a '3-Day' D-Mod called A Knight's Tale. It uses some WarCraft graphics, and has Jarvis the Knight (A Human Footman) killing lots of things.
