I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but how about weather? If it's raining, it will be more difficult (dunno how to make it difficult) to light a fire and if it's windy, it could be harder to perform most actions while facing towards to wind.
EDIT: If it's a hot weather, it will be VERY easy (again, dunno how to make it easy) to light a fire and some individual trees could catch on fire, once that happens the tree cannot be used to gather wood anymore, also it damage you if you get close (obviously). The fire could also spread, but not to deep forest (the darker woods). Trees will only catch on fire if it hasn't been raining recently.
