They pick up gold 'cos they like shiny things, it's mentioned in a couple of D-Mods (no idea which, maybe even the original game).
Hmm... Do they have pockets? I suppose they carry the coins in their stomachs, in which case you would not want to be drinking anything that comes out...
Erwin: For juices you could squeeze fruit somehow, there's plenty of fruit around. For milk the obvious place is a cow but you'd have to make graphics I suppose. Unless it's pig milk?
Bottles or skins (like waterskin, wineskin) could be used to carry them in.
