If you don't have an account, just leave the password field blank.
Otherwise, it might be something to do with OpenGL. If it runs fine with the -S cmdline flag (must be capital) then it's something deep in the graphics card drivers.

Also the beta version RW posted in that thread plays nice with both DE and WDE, which is neat. It doesn't look like he ever got around to uploading it on the DN. Even drone's newer WDE still has that problem where it junks Dinkedit hard.dats (unless I was accidentally using some ancient version of Windinkedit, which is certainly possible, but I don't think so).
