to all:

The media did not create this problem, though it is certainly true they have rather heavily responded to everyone's justifiable concern about it. Heck, even "Fox News" ( the unofficial Orange Monster State Media ) is taking it seriously now. Then there are the external state actors that are making things worse by deliberately spreading misinformation. Sigh...

they did. without them, this would've been treated like any other yearly virus before it where people get sick, then they either get better or they don't depending on if they're old/feeble. it's absolutely disgusting how media over inflated this. in fact, not only is this a yearly ordeal, there have been much more severe cases that didn't end up causing global hysteria to the point that shops are unable to keep stock.

Perhaps you are not aware of a few things that make this Covid-19 outbreak more serious than "any other yearly virus before it where people get sick, then they either get better or they don't depending on if they're old/feeble". I assume you're referring to the flu virus.

It is certainly true that flu virus family has been plaguing mankind for more than 100 years and that it kills thousands every year, but at this time in history, we can (and do!) reduce it's impact with vaccines. Even then, it mutates and forces drug companies to scramble to modify their medications for it every year. We have no vaccine against Covid-19. There are many things we do not know about this new disease. Some things we do know are that it is part of a family of Corona viruses, that include the following:

o The "common cold"
o SARS (Severe acute respiratory syndrome-related virus)
o MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome virus)
o SARS-CoV-2 virus (which causes the COVID-19 sickness that is big in the news lately)

SARS first appeared in 2003, infected about 8,000 and killed 774 (a 9% mortality rate).
MERS first appeared in 2012, infected about 2,500 and killed 862 (a 34% mortality rate).

It is true that the main way the SARS-CoV-2 virus spreads is from sick people to those who are not sick. However, spread might be possible even if people show NO symptoms for up to 5 days before symptoms appear. There have been reports of this occurring across the globe. Another problem is that symptoms of COVID-19 vary greatly from person to person, making it hard to be certain who is infected.

COVID-19 has (in the past 3 1/2 months) killed more people than SARS and MERS combined in the last 17 years. And (if we don't get control of the rate of infection through practices like social distancing and quarantine) the SARS-CoV-2 virus is just getting started.

But those numbers are not the real numbers that matter. Scientists (epidemiologists) talk about something called an "R0 number" for diseases like this. The "R0 number" represents the number of people that each infected person can potentially infect. Any virus with an "R0 number" of 1.0 or greater shows exponential (not geometric) growth. Something with an "R0 number" of less than 1.0 is a virus that we may be getting able to control soon. The SARS-CoV-2 virus has an "R0 number" somewhere between 2.0 and 3.0. By contrast, measles has an extremely high "R0 number" somewhere between 12.0 and 14.0, but also has a relatively short incubation period. Still this is why measles is such a problem now that a good percentage of the population has started to avoid vaccinations of any kind. Hopefully, we won't hear any of that nonsense when a SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is ready.

Long "incubation periods" for diseases (before symptoms appear) make it much easier for them to spread. When diseases spread quickly they also mutate quickly, making them harder to fight against. The SARS-CoV-2 virus has already mutated twice that we know of. The SARS-CoV-2 virus has a high "R0 number" and the weak responses of certain world leaders (and plenty of others who do not understand the threat) continue to make the situation worse, by acting as if this is not serious or even assuming we can "pack the churches" once again by Easter.

And while it is true that young people may not be as threatened by this virus, it is NOT true that they have nothing to worry about. Some teenagers have been among those that have died in the USA already AND even if you don't die you can have permanent damage to your respiratory system.

Plus, the COVID-19 virus threatens everyone in another way. If we don't start to "flatten the curve" through quarantine and social distancing SOON, it will fill the hospitals. Even if this does not sicken our health-care professionals, this means that soon we will be not be able to have access to the hospitals for any other reasons.

A good historical comparison would be the "Spanish Flu" (also called the "1918 flu pandemic"). It lasted two years and infected about 500 million people, killing somewhere between 17 and 100 million in a time when world travel and global commerce was a tiny percentage of what takes place today.

The above information is taken from the CDC and David Quammen(*)'s book "Animal Infections And The Next Human Pandemic" and wikipedia's Spanish Flu entry.

(*) David is a Yale graduate and former Rhodes Scholar. During autumn 2014, he was much involved, because of books and articles he has published, in the public discussion of the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa and its spread beyond.

this time, they really took advantage of it. i bet they're rolling in cash right now. and the politicians must love it too, being able to further their scumbag campaigns.

There are opportunists that take advantage of every disaster. What you say certainly makes some sense.

But the threat of COVID-19 is real.

also fox news...kek. just...kek. the very same news channel known for extreme bias and fear mongering. does glenn beck still have a spot on that laughable excuse for journalism? in fact, i wonder what that idiot thinks...a good time for him to somehow connect this to the spooky illuminati and agenda 2030...or will it be agenda 2040 when that doesn't happen?
