BoE seems to be a good, innovative, and absolutely frustrating D-Mod. I've had an enourmous amount of trouble attempting to play it without cheats, or using bugs as an advantage. But it doesn't seem possible.
For example, after you are sent on your main quest to go to the churches and steal the thingies, you go south and there are about a zillion screens of screenlocked, instantly-reappearing, speedy Priests. I tried killing them legitimately... but after dying 5 times I realized this wasn't working. I had 5 strength and 1 defense and I found the Gold Heart in the caves of the 2nd island... and there wasn't (to my knowledge) any easy way to level up. The pillbugs seem to have a respawn time of 10 minutes and don't give too much experience, so leveling up through them wasn't an option. So then I used the 'walk-on-water' trick on screenlocked screens to kill them without getting hurt (too much). So then I made it to the first dungeon...
I tried to go through it without cheating. I really did. I must have tried for about a half-hour, but I always died. So then I resorted to cheating my way through the dungeon, boosting my stats and refilling my life. And I still had a heck of a time trying to survive, and figure out the non-sensical passageways. So... going around one way makes a screen go to a new place, but coming from another direction doesn't? I'm still confused. And there is one screen with instantly-respawning Priests on the left, a barrier in the middle, and pillbugs on the right. A statue thing appears on the right when everything on the screen is dead... but because the priests instantly respawn, I couldn't find any way to get the statue without cheating.
So... am I the only one who is having trouble? Am I completely missing some vital element to the game that makes it possible (and fun) to play?
