also the codes you can use to install via steam are the very same needed if you'd install via disk and is completely optional but if you like a game recommended because you don't have to have the disk inserted and most games have a demo so if you try that first chances of mis-buys are reduces and occasionally you can try games for a weekend and but later if you like.
and the platform itself is free it has free games and is not like you have to get those games. and like pillbug said you don't have to worry about disk damage losing it and such also i you buy via steam depending if it is on sale you might get it cheaper then store bought games(shame i don't have the plastics needed) and there are games you could use steam to install which is essentially an official no cd patch included which is even faster on the loading times of the game.
