well steam is just a gaming platform and it doesn't allow offline play when you have on-line games(E.G. MMO games and such) and unlike skull feels Steam is just for gaming addicts but for gamers because it is one of 3 programs i know that allows you to keep in contact with friends when gaming) and if playing a few hours a day like me doesn't make me an addict IMHO(that would be the same like calling someone who follows a series on TV a TV addict). steam is also usefull if you want to ask a friend to a game without going trought the hassle of finding him in the game, knowing his ip and checking if he's home via whatever means(steam does all it all you have t d is open the chat and ask and your done if you both have the game and since some are freeware on it that should be a big issue)
