I like different types of music except for country.
I'm surprised nobody on this board except for Eattherats ever heard of a band called Evanescence. I even asked my friends and they don't even know who they are, but in my opinion it's a good band.
The lyrics for Evanescence is about exploring dark, introspective themes of love, desperation, and despair, but the message is a positive one. 
Linkin Park is another good band too.
