Slash vs. Buckethead
I don't know who among you follow guitar drama in anyway; but recently a friend and myself got into an argument on the topic which guitarist was the better.
If you are completely out of the loop: Slash was the guitarist for GNR for a long time until drama with the lead singer kinda ripped the band apart. Several years later Buckethead took up lead guitar for the band (though I don't think he is still with them either). Now other then the fact that I think Buckethead is just a complete freak and will probably end up in a mental institution one day, his speed tapping does nothing for me. I mean great, you can play skin peeling solos, but when you put his work in a 'normal' song it never seems to fit. Slash's showmanship alone gets him my vote, but also his style seems to work well into a 'band' and not just a 'soloist.'
Oh well, you probably have your own favorite guitarist, any Eddie Van Halen fans? BBking? Satriani? Dime bag? Just curious...

I enjoy virtually everyone you just mentioned, and I'll be seeing B.B. King at Bonnaroo next week.
I think Buckethead's solo stuff is incredible, but I haven't heard any of his material with lyrics placed atop. I will agree to some degree-gree-gree that he doesn't seem appropriate for "normal" songs, but maybe I should look deeper into the subject before judging too soon.

Skwisgaar Skwigelf's Advanced Fast Hand Finger Wizard Mastery is far more metal than either of those nobodies.
And Pickles is the greatest drummer of all time .
And on a side note, before someone speaks his name: Hendrix is over-rated. There I said it, flame if you wish, but he is good...just not 'that' good.

I want to say your joking. If you can play guitar then any girl is yours... that or piano, I have seen both work magic on women
Hmmm...I play the guitar and no ladies come to me.Maybe because i am a soulman.I should be a anarchist.
Dang. I wish I would have known that when I was a kid. Otherwise I wouldn't have wasted my time with the spoons and jew's harp.
I don't think his technique was revolutionary in any way, but I am a fan of his sound. I'd rather listen to a 24-hour Hendrix marathon than any Nickelback song ever.
Hendrix is the BESt!But i also like John Norum.
Hendrix didn't put out half of the material that some of the other 'greats' have i.e. Jimmy Page . I mean, had he not died so soon maybe he could of continue to evolve and put great stuff out and be the king of all music right now; but he didn't. Don't get me wrong, I love his stuff, and he was supposedly one of the greatest live guitarist to watch. But, unlike the Rolling Stone, I wouldn't name him number one of all time.
I ment the best as the best. Not the best as the best.Make difference
So what you're saying is that there is no spoon? Nor was there ever a spoon?
Slash was the only real G'N'R guitarist, period. It's just the sound and his own style what defined the band's sound. Chinese Democracy seems just pathetic, I cannot imagine how crappy it'll be.
My favourite guitarist is currently David Gilmour, I just love his sounds and style of playing solos. I used to admire super-fast technical guitarists like Malmsteen and others but now their stuff only sounds like a mess of million blurred notes.
