Linux is pretty cool, but since I order APC I have so many distros, I can't choose. For now I'll stick with Windows.
What Linux distro do you have?

I use Gentoo Linux.

I use Ubuntu, which is good if you want good bleeding edge hardware support. 3D, proper sound card and network card support won't work on any other distro I have used so far, unfortunately.

Er... most, if not all, current Linux distros run off a CD today.

I'm getting Ubuntu on my computer soon. But currently I use Windows XP with SP4. I've seen Ubuntu, and it looks awesome. We had it on a computer with really crappy specs, and it ran faster than my Dad's computer which runs Fedora, and it's specs are awesome.

Windows XP doesn't even have SP3 out yet. Wonder how you're able to run SP4.

From Microsoft themselves:

SP3 for Windows XP Home Edition/Professional is currently planned for 1H CY2008. This date is preliminary.

So what the heck are you rambling on about?

DD95, if you're testing out the system, I suggest you dual boot. Keep Windows on there to fall back on if you don't like Ubuntu or if it won't work well.

"Windows XP doesn't even have SP3 out yet. Wonder how you're able to run SP4."

Oops, accident. I meant to say SP2.

One of the main reasons I want Ubuntu is all the games it comes with. And all the cool Linux-based free stuff. Like the GIMP, and a bunch of other stuff.

Don't get too excited about the games - the best ones (Planet Penguin Racer!!) are ported to Windows anyway. And so are the GIMP and more like those.

Get it for the speed and efficiency, and for the ease of installing/testing new software. And for the cleanness of application data/settings/overall boot stuff. And the cool 3D desktop effects. And for learning to dive deeper into computers, software and maybe hardware. And for setting up a server. And for making the thing totally customizable. And to get a bunch of cool gadgets (bouncing cow screensaver!).

Ummm, yeah.

Of those, I only really agree with speed and efficiency, ease of installing new software, application data/settings and being completely customizable.

But yeah, I find those very good reasons to stay, and a good incentive not to return. Windows registry, BAH! No, I like my configuration files, thank you.
