GVIMH; where do the potions go?

Hi all,
I'm immensely enjoying GVIMH, but I got stuck, I think. I got through the forest of mad slayers, opened the chests there and returned to the village to search for the sword master and buy the spells. BUT: although I bought all the witches' potions, they do not appear in my inventory, so I cannot 'rejuvenate' when fighting the slayers. And fighting slayers with only my meager health is not a good idea...
So, I do not have enough money to buy Fireball (3000 gp), and I cannot get more because I get killed everytime by the slayers and I cannot get my health up again because I cannot use the potions. Any ideas, anyone?
Oh, btw: I'm on version 1.08.

The potlady's potions are not healing potions but provide a magic boost. You need to trick the slayers into killing each other until you have enough money to buy the fireball spell. I don't think you can get any healing potions until you get to Niv.
