"Fishy" problem in The Scourger

I'm using an ancient computer. In the first part of the DMOD wherein Dink has to pass the speed test, I had to skip and used the "C" option which is but no choice because my computer is quite slow.
I thought the same option "C" would be avalaible when Dink had to consecutively catch 5 fish in the Snowlands but alas! no such considerations. My aged fingers may not be too fast for such a task or my relic computer is... I don't know. Is it possible to catch fishes in a slow computer? I've already changed keyboards because the old one got punched out too often and gave up on me.
And, oh, good work and lovely DMOD so far...

Thanks, Tal, for cleaning after me. This is all new to me. And I just discovered what BLOG is only last month. You can correct me anytime... it's the only way to learn without a handy "walkthrough."

Is there only one one cave per area? Just curious...I hate to miss any secrets...

Any fool can use a computer. Many do.
Hmm, reminds me to check my own D-Mod for timing problems But I'm sure metatarasal can help you here

I didn't think that catching the fish was influenced by computerspeed, and I still believe that, but the speed at which Dink hits is determined by computerspeed... So I think I'll need to make the "C" button available for all three 'time challenges' in the future.

For now probably the best option is to find the file s3-fishing.c and change the line wait(400); (line 16) to a higher value. (400 means there's a time window of four tenths in which you need to hit the fish, so you can extend that by altering that command))

So the solution is to replace wait(400); with wait(800); or wait(1200); or whatever's needed...

Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice.
I'm using an ancient computer
How ancient is it? Dink worked fine on my old Pentium II(266Mhz, 32MB RAM)

Cypry, it is possible that it's my fingers that are ancient, not my computer bec it's also Pentium II - same-same. Still, for the life of me! i can never catch the fishes - one or two yes, but not five.

I wonder when metatarsal will come out with a patch or something for slow-pokes like me I really want to finish the game.

Thanks for reminding me, I just e-mailed v1.01.
It will make the C button available for the fish challenge too.

If that won't work I could even edit the scripts for you.

Thanks, metatarsal. I downloaded The Scourger again. And I'm now starting anew. Made several changes to the first download and tried editing the fish file (as per your initial directions)...*squawk*! Dink started from the screen desert to the snowlands (I was never good with directions *lol* even when young). So far no bugs - although I have to build up my levels for those nasty slimes in the catacombs. Persistence and determination can make up for speed (computer or fingers).

Thank you!

You don't have to start anew, you could simply copy your saves into the new folder.
