Visions
That, and you can only place 100 sprites on screen on all visions.
So if you have 3 sprites (including Dink) on vision 0; 5 on vision 1 and 2 on vision 3. You have a total of 10 sprites out of the maximum of 100.

Uh oh... I have 88 different visions AND I need to place hardness. I can't do it with hardness because its in the same spot no matter what vision and I can't do it with sprites because of the 100/per screem limit! (well I suppose I could give the houses a large square hardboxe each, but then there are some dinkers out there who look for properly placed hardness)
That's what you should use anyway, instead of dozens of hard invisible sprites.
If you don't mind me asking, what do you use 88 different visions for?

But they are still there when I switch visions
For a building tool, so Dink can create buildings! (You heard the idea here first)

Ah. You're kinda screwed, then
The best way to do what you're describing is to create the hardness from a script, which would be really not fun.
