I Need Help With Security
Please help me! Suddenly my computer is flooded with spyware & malware and when I'm online, popups with sex links keep appearing in Internet explorer even though I don't use it(I use Firefox). I have Norton Antivirus 2003(With a running subscription) but it dosen't seem to do anything. I'm using XP.

I already have that but it does not provide online protection. Should I install an earlier version of windows?
Restart you computer and press F8 constantly, before windows XP starts, then it should come up a menu, were it is many startup options. STart it with safemode and/or network
Press Cont/Alt/Del and see what programs are running. If you see some that look like advertising programs shut them down, then uninstall from the control panel. That should help. If your Adaware is older than about 4 months update to the new version as they no longer make reference files for older versions. AdAware ROCKS!, but every week or so you need to update the reference file(web update upper-right) and run a system scan.(But you probably know this....)
That was why I told him to start in safemode,'couse many advertisement programs that ere being installed on your comuter may mayy be able to turn of. and ad-aware can`t delete the programs that are in use with windows. You can`t even delete the registery files for it. Or they will be deleted, but since the program can`t be uninstalled the program will create new registery keys again. I knopw about another soulyion that can help you. Donwload Autorun manager from http://Rudenko.com With this program can you select which programs that starts with windows. Its very easy to use, and its a trial version.
Where is my hosts file? how do I open it?
EDIT: ok, I think I found it. But it dosen't have much. Just this:
127.0.0.1 localhost
But there does seem to be loads of stuff in the services file.
Also, when I start in safe mode, my mouse dosen't work, not even a tiny squeak!

Try Spybot Search and Destroy. It has online protection. Just do a google search for it.
