Re: FINNS MUST READ THIS!!!
Well...I asked this question long ago and no one answered. It had been all, but forgotten 'til I was on a forum for "Fallout" and guess what? A LARGE PERCENTAGE OF THE MEMBERS THERE ARE FINNISH TOO?! I cant explain why though...
So the large number of Finn's isnt unique to Dink...it seems to be based either on those online or those involved in RPG's. I put my question up there hoping for an answer as I will here. I am copying and pasting it...

Can someone of Finnish origin please tell me why your people hunger to be online or perhaps just for RPG's? Is it due to the long periods of cold and darkness that keep you indoors and in front of a computer? Is it children raised on fables of hero's and heroine's like you see in RPG's? Do you plan to take over the world?

MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!
A very well-educated member of the other forum has told me a valid explanation:

Finland is a communication super-power, even though it is only a modest country by other standards. It has very high per capita measures of Internet hosts, I believe around 10 percent, making it the highest in the world. Due to the fact that Finland has deregulated telecommunications, it has among the lowest rates for telecommunications. The National Information Society of Finland developed a strategy in 1994 to develop networks and provide high speed Internet access to the entire country. The Finnish government has consciously developed solutions to preventing a nation that is divided into "have" and "have-nots."
In addition, a very high educational level, public spending on research, and of course the long winter nights have spurred on the Finnish people. Finland has had an internet presence since 1988, and being a leader in telecommunication equipment, has done very well. Not to mention being a stable democracy with a modern economy and an open-minded culture. It's all led to a much higher percentage of the population being on the internet than almost anywhere in the world.

So is this true according to you Finnish Dinker's? Please comment as I'm still curious.

Well, actually that is quite true. But nonetheless, ADSL is slow here and the costs are ridiculous. Would you want to pay about 40€ per month for using 128/256 ADSL?
That's why I'm a loyal dialup user
well, actually I use dialup because I have to. I live pretty far from town, in the middle of nowhere, so I can't get ADSL.
That's why I'm a loyal dialup user

I pay 11€ a month for 256k/256k ADSL
Like japanese people in the real world, finns are everywhere in the internet.

It is actually pretty cheap here in norway, we pay 41€ for 700k/128k ADSL
Sorry to burst your bubble, old pal, but that would not be ADSL. The definition of ADSL is that the upload speed is slower than the download speed.
Well.. I pay 47 € for 1280/384.. hehehehe.. So take that.

Ummm...Finns usually get noticed because
1:We are very proud people (the usual image of a finnish man is fat drunkard)
2:We like to get noticed; We have big stupid nick's with finnish words, we are [fin]-tags everywere...Oh, and have you ever seen a really noobish finn?
3... I think there's something else, i just can't figure out what it is...

I don't pay for up to 256/512

I get cable for $38, Im not sure what the upload/download speeds are exactly, but I've gotten about 3 mb/s downloading before.
I pay 21 canadian dollars for my lite speed connection through Shaw cable.......I don't know the exact download, upload speeds but when I was at pcpitstop.com,I think it put me at uploading 108kb?Does the sound about right?
Uh, cable can't reach 3 MB/s. You need dual-T1 or faster (fibre lines).
Oh, and have you ever seen a really noobish finn?
Yes?
Yes?

I would suggest that a forum change occurs. A modification so nobdy can't reply after his own post only edit it, only he can reply after some other.
I say no. While this would surely solve a good number of newbie woes, there are certain circumstances (no obvious examples come to mind, unfortunately) where a reply to one's own post is acceptable, maybe even necessary.
Yea like if you want to update an old thread with new info. Thanks for suggesting though Kory.
