SimonK, a few questions (Closed)
Ok, about Pilgrim's Quest:
Do you know a release date?
About how many new graphics?
Will you (pretty) please compile it to smallest size?
It sounds neat. It'll have a great balance of gameplay, humor, and storyline.

: Do you know a release date?
Hopefully in this month
: About how many new graphics?
Don't know... a lot. Some full screen sequences which take up lots of space...
: Will you (pretty) please compile it to smallest size?
I will try... but the beta version is over 40MB zipped - 35MB of that is graphics/tiles I think.

I hope so

I guess I'll download it overnight- as long as it doesn't autod-disconnect me

Thank Goodness For Friends With Cable Internet Access.
Specifically Flatline, who's going to download and burn me a CD. Right? Flatline? Buddy?

Jeeze.. why are people still using the crappy zip format? Go get WinAce, and ace the file, or WinRar, and rar the file, I have found both to be way better than zip. Even when you make them into Self-Extracting archives, you can save several MBs.
Here's an example, the Mystery Island Graphics + the original Dink tiles + the original Dink sounds:
Uncompressed: 20, 3 MB
ZIP Compression: 10, 6 MB
ACE Compression w/Sfx: 8, 21 MB
ACE Compression: 8, 15 MB
RAR Compression w/Sfx: 8, 04 MB
RAR Compression: 8, 00 MB
In conclusion I can say that RAR was the winner. Stripped off 2,56 MB using RAR with Sfx, which would make sure that it can be extracted even if you don't have WinRar or WinAce. 2,56 MB may not seem like much, but for somebody with modem, or another kind of slow connection, 2,5 MB means quite a lot. Comments anyone?

I'm actually using winRar to get the dmod to beta testers, but don't know much about it. Thanks for that info... I should read more about the software I use
