I used to play ad&d often. I knew a bunch of guys who played, and we just set aside one day a week to play. Now I'm an old family guy and don't play, but in this town, a couple of comic book stores are in the action. They have back rooms where people come in and play Magic t.g. some days, ad&d other days. They keep a bullitin board where anyone can post plans to begin a game, in house or someones home. Try the comic book or other stores wherever the players guides can be bought. They do have a reason to help you, you might buy thier stuff.
you can find a RPG section in many of your local book stores. basically you start out with a rule book for the game, then you need to learn it and find people to play it with. also, many hobby stores or card stores will have a more hardcore RPG base.
The caption for this comic is:
Debbie thought playing Dungeons and Dragons was fun...until it destroyed her friend.

Hehe...
did you see "Reefer Madness"? That site reminds me of that. (It was a movie showing the "evils" of mariuana, now found in the comedy section of your vid store.) D&D isn't for everyone, but oddly enough crime rates are lower amongst d&d players that non players. Not that it shows cause and effect, I think it says only that RPGs are for basicaly very intelligent people who want to use thier imagination.
