The Dink Network

I would like to register with this community, but I am having problems. The confirmation/instructions mail did not come to my gmail account, and I have signed up hours ago. It should be noted that I went to registration form again and typed the same name and e-mail, and I got an error that both are used, but still no mail in my box, not even in spam. How long does it take for this e-mail to come? Or had I screwed up something? Maybe Dink has a secret surname one is supposed to type instead of obvious one? (As hinted by the fact that "antispam" message for this post tells one to type in Dink XXX's last name, and XXX is already given, are bots really this dumb not to parse out last name when it is given already?)

I suspect that sign ups might not work because of server sending those mails may have become defunct, hence asking.

Have you checked your junk/spam box? Only advice I have.
You might also try joining the Dink discord and asking there.

Thanks for trying to help! Unfortunately, I've already tried the option of checking spam. The e-mail is simply not there (yet?) Either it will take longer to appear, or it might be something ate it on the way / the sendmail operation failed.

Maybe staff can help me with this, by checking server logs to see if e-mail was sent / an error occured. In the meantime, I'll keep checking e-mail (including spam folder) every once in a while.

A number of people have complained about this in the past, so it's definitely not just you. In fact, I tried to create an account just now and didn't get an email either. Sad!

Try sending a message to redink1 (through Discord is probably the quickest), he's the only one who can really do anything about it.

I've been unable to reach redink1 (known as RedRecondite on Discord) for a few days now. It might be that he is away on summer vacation or something. So, if you don't hear from him right away, know that he is not ignoring you.

This has been a problem for over ten years now, with at least a few users having to wait a year or two to sign up. I assume the DN mail server is blacklisted somewhere, as only some hosts seem to be affected.

Red Recondite was back on Discord last night. If you had left him a message there, you might be registered now. I know he got to something I asked him to do a few days ago.

Anyway, although he was not online at Discord again this morning, I left him a message anyway to check out what might be happening with your registration, just in case you were unable to do so.

@Slipdink well, thank you! As a matter of fact, I don't happen (nor plan to) to be registered on Discord (evil social media), so your message is probably the only way he will notice, and I'm indebted to you for it.

Anyway, I am planning to stick around, although obviously not going to post every day. I have first played Dink Smallwood (not only campaign but d-mods as well) more than a decade ago, and I am now revisiting it. Glad that community is still not dead and in fact a bit more alive than several years ago, although far call from what I've seen when I was introduced to it by a retro-game enthusiast I met over Internet.

P.S. Hopefully redink1 will still read this thread, as this might not have been clear: the nick I registered is "Vigilante" not "VigilGuest". VigilGuest I use only to post as a guest.

Wow, I solved it! Used "Forgot Password" and e-mail came instantly. Now I could set a password, which I couldn't originally do because an approval e-mail never came.

Maybe redink1 has fixed something (God bless him), or maybe Forgot Password works even when account was not initially approved by e-mail.

A bit like you, I played Dink Smallwood's original adventure, many years ago, when it was first available on my favorite linux distro and then years later I became active on the DN site and have been downloading dmods and making a few of my own ever since.

This site used to be better when Tal ran it.
