Preparing for a speedrun
Doing a speedrun is definitely on my bucket list. And since Dink Smallwood is a game very dear to me, I decided to try, as my first speedrun, to..well..speedrun Dink Smallwood Specifically, an Any% speedrun.
Now, I saw this guy who finished the game in around half an hour. This site however, clearly outdated, says the shortest time is around 50 minutes. Anyways, I plan on finishing in under 35 minutes.
Sooooooo, if any of you know of any glitches, bugs, etc. that you know of that could help me skip certain parts or make certain parts easier, please, tell me about them.
I'll first replay the game normally (because I haven't played the game in like a year and I want to experience it again, but also, because I want to refamiliarize myself with the engine, etc. and see if I can find some stuff myself.)

Dink doesn't have any glitches or bugs. What sort of hogwash have you been reading?
If you play 1.07 or 1.06 versions, there's the rather infamous collision gap in the Edge of the World cliffs near Bjork Dam that allows you to get to the final battle very easily. The main difficulty is beating Seth with the stats you'd have.
I don't know of any relevant map bugs in 1.08 or 1.09 because they were all fixed.

Huh. I imagined. Welp. Tis gonna be harder than I thought
i imagine cnet's still got an outdated dink, but cnet is shit. don't use it.
Nah. I'm going to use the latest version to add to the challenge
I was thinking to skip a few yellow hearts to save time, but will I be able to kill Seth with relatively small health?
The "outdated Dink" is still available right here on this site
I decided to check it out and indeed the Edge of the World hardness glitch is in it but I can't remember how to get to the final battle from it. I think it may require the 1.06 exe whereas I used Freedink.

I decided to use freedink 1.08 because with the old version from 2006 there is lag when you change to a screen with different music and when cutscene scripts are loaded.
I tried to get the shortest time from the start until the bridge. I got 6:48, 10 or so seconds more than the video(pretty good I'd say)
UPDATE:
I redid the first part of the game, finishing it at a whopping 6:21 minutes! But I didn't pick up any heart/food/anything leaving me in the end with almost empty health. Maybe if I picked them up there would've been around 7-8 more seconds

Hmm, nicely done! I'd advise you to go to the dark side and install Dink HD though I don't think anyone's done a speedrun with that version yet.
here i go. eh duck it. i don't want to skip so many bonuses and shit.
But is the glitch used in the video (which I'm also going to use, obviously) present in Dink HD?
Also I was thinking to diversify a little bit and instead of getting the fast boots, I would raise my magic and get hellfire to kill Seth faster. But I dunno if, in the end, that would be faster, slower, or the same.

I feel like it would be a lot slower to pass up on the Herb Boots, though I haven't tested that myself. The herb boots are actually extremely efficient at killing Seth (and anything, really) if your attack is pretty high. When I play I try to get the boots ASAP and then pump all points into attack. I've never done a true speed-run though so I can't say if it's the fastest strategy or not. Also, since most of this game is just moving from place to place, being able to move twice as fast just saves so much time. And feels awesome.
but the problem is how out of the way the boot store is. same with the bonuses.

Exactly. Thing is, I don't want my run to be an exact copy of the video. I want some originality. Eh, I guess I'll give up.

Don't just give up like that, you seem to be getting the hang of it and we need you to prove that we're fast. Besides what's the point of originality in one section, if it would ruin your entire run, there are still other points that he did, that can be different, like the bow, segmenting, killing Seth. Either way you shouldn't just give up, try and give it a good shot and show that your life isn't blue.
Thanks for the motivational speech, Dack.
The run isn't going to be segmented. It'ss going to be one big, half an hour video. Other than that, nothing is different

Wait that was motivational, well.... You're the sorriest disappointment I've ever seen of a chicken, you couldn't even operate a water cooler with how clumsy you are. Even if you finished in the Olympics, you'd be in 2nd place, the place that couldn't reach number 1!
At the very least you do have that major difference, it does take more effort to do it all in one go since you're relying on your luck all at one time, instead of when it's good or when you're blessed by RNG. You could try doing a lets play and do some commentary to make it special, I didn't see what the first guy did, but just make sure not to get distracted, even with Skurn in the audience if you do Twitch.

It was a joke. Chilllllllllllllllll
Anyways, last time I tried to stream a game I emulated SMB3 and even THAT was laggy as hell. My past and present PCs aren't exactly the most modern, because I play older games. I'll try tho. I'l even make a thread to announce it.
It's goin to be great. It's goin to be the best stream you'll ever see. No one streams better than me, believe me

Have you tried finding ways to help reduce the lag, like different applications? If needed you could always start working as a webcam gamer, I hear the tips can get pretty good if you learn to play with 3 limbs.
Freedink reduces the lag. I already chose it as base for the speedrun
Man I love speedruns! This game doesn't have a lot of them. Thing is, I honestly think the dmods might make better speedrun games than the main one even. The best ones are way larger, could allow for more glitches and sequence breaks, and I feel they can be less linear than the main game. Dunno if I should recommend a few I like or maybe you should look around or already have some favorites.
