If I had better Dmodding skills I would make the map small or medium at at largest however id make every screen count and ill make detailed interesting.
Similar to Initiation but more variety for each floor I like idea of A D-mod enitirely indoor except like when you reach the end that reminds of Wolf3D.
FIAT,Histroical hero and and Quest for Dorinthia do the opposite BIG maps that are tedious sometimes not detailed.

When comes to films Die Hard 1 does this almost the whole entire film is set within a couple floors of each other.

Why not map for someone? Time consuming as all duck, but I guess you don't want to code anything.

I understand that you want to do mapping and you want the D-Mod to be short? Or do you want it long, but just in a small space?

Given that you haven't made one before, I'd suggest you keep it short. In that case, I'm happy to help you with the coding, or even to just do it for you.
