Who plays Minecraft? It's flippin' awesome. It's completely sucked away every aspect of my free time for the past few months.

I tried it for 5 minutes and I just don't get what's so awesome about it. It's fugly too.

I played it earlier, but I don't anymore.

So what is it that's so attractive about it?

The ability to do ANYTHING.

My server is radical. There is only one issue regarding auto-regging on multiworld that I can't bypass somehow. Been bumping the thread on Bukkit for ages and no one can help me. >_>

Only the old, classic version. It's got limited gameplay, still pretty fun, though.

I don't understand it at all. Badly programmed too.

I have a friend who loves it though. I think you either love it or hate it.

You can play it on the website, but you still have to buy the game first.

I don't have Minecraft Beta, but I do play a lot of WoM: Realms which is also a Minecraft Alpha server. If you want, I could just show you my Perfectly Horrible Not-Great Realm.

Agreed. Why would a Dinker need Minecraft to build things when he has Dink.

It uses several gigabytes of RAM and all of my CPU power, and yes, it's not the best looking game.

Java has a reputation for being slow, and minecraft doesn't do anything to help.

Also there's this great place called "outside" where you can collect things to build stuff. It's a lot cheaper to play.

Yeah, that's not going to work. Outside you can't just dig a hole and build a wall out of the dirt you've collected in mere seconds. Outside you'll also need to have permission to build anywhere first, unless you build something so insignificant that no one cares about it.

It's a lot cheaper to play.

Only if you really gather all you need outside and then you probably wouldn't get much out it. €14.95 for a world 8 times the size of the earth where you can do whatever you want, now THAT'S cheap.

May look ugly, may be a not-top-of-the-line programmed but almost 3,000,000 peeps who bought the game can't be wrong. Minecraft alone is fun but a modded Minecraft multiplayer is even more fun with an economy system, residences, spearate PVP worlds, you name it. The Bukkit community is freakin' huge. And yeah, it is only memory intensive.

pillbug: I run my own modded server to play wif friends from time to time. All I wish for is some kind of easy linux-based server computer to run it so I don't have to run it from my computer 24/7.

You can build stuff, sure, but it looks atrocious. I can take a paper, draw on it, feel good about it, but at the end of the day it's still a horrible, handicapped stick person xD

You could argue it's fine if you feel good about it which is certainly true, but that's not really the game that's so awesome

It's just the freedom and the openness of the game that makes it appealing. It takes a while to grasp it and understand it, but once you've got the hang of it and know what you're doing, it's gonna be all you want to play. No doubt.

You don't like the look of it, you can download a texture pack. There's some friggen awesome ones out there.

I don't play Minecraft, but I was watching a video of it last night and found out it has very nice music. I didn't even know it had music.

I assume one needs to be artisticly inclined to make neat stuff?

Legos are just solid colored cubes, but they're fun. Minecraft is like giga Legos, with multiplayer. And enemies. And textures. Also: The beta looks a whole lot better than Classic.

I don't hate people who play Minecraft. I just hate the fact that there's no real reason why they love Minecraft. They just play it cause its Minecraft, there's no real reason. It's like listening to a musician even though you don't like his/her songs. You just listen to him/her because it's the certain person who's making the songs. It sickens me.

We all think Minecraft is FUN and for that reason we love it, obviously. You can't love/think anything's fun without trying it first and play it for a while. I don't dig Apple just 'cause they're Apple, no effing way.

Well sorry for thinking that way, but so far you haven't given us any reason why you love it so much. Saying it's fun is not really an explanation. So far there doesn't seem to be a rational explanation as to why you think it is so fun.

Remember, I'm no trying to offend you. Just sayin' my opinion. You can like it if you want to, but I'm interested as to why you think it's such an amazing game.

I get it, I get it. You try a game, it's fun, you continue playing it. I'll give it a go for my version of why Minecraft is fun:

It's a wonderful, vast sandbox experience. You can build anything you can imagine. If you have the time and urge. Make it a project. Me and two of my pals created our current school in Minecraft (Youtube video coming soon) in a little larger-than-original scale in Minecraft for a school project.

Survival-styled gameplay with interesting monsters to hunt you down or blow up your buildings. The combat system pretty much sucks right now though.

A random, generated, never-ending world to explore and strip the resources it's offering to craft better tools and stuff for your creations like furnaces, bookshelves and food.

I think Minecraft is kinda weak at singleplayer tbh. It's freakishly more fun with lots of players that can help each other build, battle it out in PVP, survive the zombie-infested nights together etc.

Extremely mod-friendly with thousands of mods to enhance your server with. Economy system, block protection, multi-worlds, weather control you name it.

And please, do not quote and answer some or every line or lines without having played the game first and have experienced some or all of the statements above.

I think it looks very nice. If you don't however, well, I'm sure you can find a texturepack that's more to your taste.

You might like LB Photo Realism if you think Minecraft's default texture is too low-res.

Or you could try the customisable Painterly Pack.

Single player sucks, yeah, but hopefully the 1.8 update improves the shootty combat system. Notch has tweeted about charging bows and sprinting and sending mobs flying and stuff. I'm sooooooo keen.
