Grasp of Darkness has also been updated today, and this new version also includes some anti-cheating code (which isn't really needed because of course no one would ever think of cheating) and an in-depth walkthrough.

Not sure where to fit it into the above sentence, but in case you were wondering, this D-Mod is made by Quiztis

So, has anyone played the updated version or checked out the walkthrough?

I had it downloaded before the quake, but not yet sorry.

I'm new here and maybe I missed something...

But the current version I downloaded shows 1.08 instead of 1.1 and I can't find any walkthrough on " Grasp of Darkness".

The 1.08 it shows in-game is referring to the main Dink game engine, not to the D-Mod. And there isn't a walkthrough because no one's written one yet

Anyway... the walkthrough is in the D-Mod folder, on Windows XP this is C:\Program Files\Dink Smallwood\god

We need our own Solutions/walkthrough tab here on the forum.

I vote Skull gets to test and read them all thoroughly before they may be added (keep him busy for a while heh)

There are going to be more Dinkerviews. I actually e-mailed a person who I was hoping to accept my interview. He never replied.

Ya, it's ok Sparrowhawk. I included it in the actual game folder as a quicker reference if one gets stuck. I would submit it to Soulutions too, but I forgot it I guess. It's dun nao anyway.

Yeah, I think too that it isn't needed as the Dink Solutions already got their button. Maybe highlight it for the noobs that it is a walkthrough site for DMODs,.

I guess there is a bug or two or something I don't know.

FOREST OF DARKNESS

"BOSSTIME! When you go south from the savebot area you will see two generators powering the base. Darius will use a small swarm of Shadows to finish you off. Darius never appeared!! Screenlock stays active and can't go out!

THE DARKLANDS

Farmer Bob never appears I walked around and killed monsters for couple of times but Bob is having a vacation maybe?

Any ideas?

Hm. I will check it out. You go north from the savebot to reach Farmer Bob, but you probably knew that. He should dang be there.

About Darius, I don't know. I've experienced a bug when killing the shadows too fast that he won't appear but I thought I fixed that one. I will make a full playthrough immidiately (again) just to be sure I haven't missed anything. Playing in DinkHD for the cool-ness.

Thanks for pointing it out, uncle. Uploaded a small hotfix update. Couldn't find any problems with Farmer Bob though.

No, this is not. This is a fan made website for Dink Smallwood and for people to upload D-Mods to. It has turned pretty much into the website that all the people first come to find Dink, but that doesn't make it the official website.

I'd cheat. In fact... i think it's a shame that anybody feels the need to put an anti-cheat in a single player game. Players choice to cheat right??? I'm an old school Dink fan and honestly, I don't have time to play 99% of my single player games "legit". If I did that... i'd never see the end of most of them. So, I will have to pass off "Grasp of Darkness" do to this. I'm sure it's a great quest, but I really don't have time to muscle through and old game like dink. I'm sure there are others who feel this way. Hope the Dink Gods are watching and release a Anti-Cheat free version of this.

I'm sorry but I totally support anti-cheat measures being implemented. The game should be played like the author intended it to. If that doesn't suit the player, then there's always other d-mods to be played

I, on the other hand, totally agree with mr. Dexter. There's no sense in trying to beat a bonca 50 times, or level grinding for 5 hours to get your stats up. It would be a real shame to abandon an otherwise good dmod just because you get stuck in a single situation that's too tough and/or annoying, rather than simply cheating past it.

I understand anti-cheats if the author feels that cheating will totally ruin the gaming experience, but just warning the player about that and leaving it to their discretion should suffice.

It's fun to cheat a'ight and I can feel your annoyance DeXTeR2U. Thing is that I want to give the players a challenge and the game is fully beatable at only level 5. The included walkthrough is the way to go if you're stuck or buy the herb boots to make the game a lot easier. See? I've already implemented easier ways to get through the mod. There's no need to grind or muscle your way through this dmod. Maybe one level to 6 at the end.

I noticed players cheating in my mod to get past that bonca and the rest of the mod and I really think that's not the way to go. I got dissapoint.

Cheating could also break some dmods, like raising your money to buy somthing you aren't suppose to afford until you do some sub quest which you get gold for.

This means the player would miss parts of the game at best, and maybe mess up the variable so he can't continue.

Yes, this is the case in my d-mod, messing with the stats (not gold though) WILL mess up parts of the game (the whole upgrade system) because it tracks stat gains per point seperately and matches it against the true stats. It wasn't even an anti-cheat measure to begin with, but I think it did turn out that way xD

Yeh, cheating will also mess up the variables in my dmod. So be hardcore and don't cheat. I know it's tough and all but honestly, cheating through a game just because it's old?

That's because I taught him English (he's better than me now though) and because I told him to do LP of Star Wars cause it's hard. I wasn't into doing LP's just then.
