The Dink Network

Fire-wall Spell

Description
A simple spell that creates a small, stationary wall of fire in front of Dink that damages constantly based on the player's magic stat and also burns trees. The spell will last for approximately 3 seconds before dissipating. No extra effects were added.

Author's Notes:
Using the spell will take some getting used to. The wall itself is relatively small and only fires in 4 directions. On top of that, the fire wall is cast a bit away from Dink (roughly where his fist lands at the end of the magic hit sequence. It is possible to miss an enemy completely when it is too close. This was done intentionally (Dink setting himself aflame would just be ridiculous.)

Altering the spell:
Whether or not the spell hurts Dink can be toggled in the firewall.c script. Also in the script the strength of the spell can be modified. The amount of time the fire wall stays on screen can be toggled in the kill-fwal.c script.

Gotta say, this isn't quite what I was expecting. I was thinking this was going to be a defensive spell. I was looking forward to that because how often does one see defensive spells in dink? Not often I can tell you that. But alas- this it not really a defensive spell.
Here's what I expected/hoped for:
First- the wall (it is called a wall) functions as a wall because that's how walls should function and blocks dink and enemy sprites from moving through it. You know, cause that's what walls are for.
Second- Even though the wall is actually hard it has no_hit() on so missiles can still zoom over it and hit enemies and junk.
Third- It exploded when it dies. I was definitely more hoping for this one than expecting it.

Now, this is what I actually got:
One- The wall isn't hard, enemies that walk through it take damage. It feels like a placed rather than a fired magic rain spell.
Two- It animates really nicely.
Three- The area where it will actually damage the enemy is kind of annoying.

Anyways, besides it not actually being a wall it's a good spell. It looks nice and functions well enough to be used by one and all with ease. If your looking for a bunch of various spells this will be for you. If your looking for spells with a lot of flare, this is probably not for you.
