This is more of a story DMOD than an action based DMOD.

Story

The author has provided two ways of progressing, one with full details and one with a summary of the conversations for those players that don't want to go the full story path.

This seems to work very well, although for some reason I didn't get the Ethel wanting a pet summary, but by the time I got around to getting her a pet the full version kicked in as if I didn't know I had to do this.

A lot of thought has gone into the story for this adventure, and I was interested in seeing how it would unfold and wrap up considering that it takes place before the original game. While I think the author has done a good job with all of this, I didn't believe that young Dink would have forgotten everything in the years that are meant to pass between the end of this DMOD and the original game.

There are a large amount of graphics from other DMODs and some custom ones which is nice. Having a young Dink as just a resized version of the original Dink works for most of the time as he doesn't get a sword as such (or at least I didn't, but you could go to the store in Terris and buy a long sword) and the boomerang's appearance was enough of a 'fresh' way of fighting for me.

New sounds, and some new music, although nothing struck me as memorable, nothing was jarring other than the rim-shot sound fx on the jokes.

I did experience a few bugs, one in which I had to warp out of being stuck in hardness going from a screen in the high desert area to one west with plants that I got stuck in with pillbug screenlock. And another after blowing up the giant fallen cactus to get back to the rippled sand, I went back up one screen too close the giant cactus that had now reappeared and I was stuck in it.

Also, somehow the game thought I had killed a pig, which I was fairly certain I had not, so I got stuck in the judgement room, without a clear idea of how to repent/atone for my supposed sin. I tried divesting myself of all goods, but nothing seemed to work, so I ended up resetting a global variable to say I hadn't killed anything just to finish the game.

Another somewhat annoying aspect was curing the poison, I had to go through so much text each time while the desert heat has also killing me, just to cure the poison. Perhaps there was a way to stop this from happening after the first cure effort, but I didn't see it, as I was frantically spacebar'ing to trying to eat food to get my health back up.

Short cutting all the text stuff after repeatedly dying would have been nice, and possible given the scripting/variable manipulation that is going on in this DMOD, which was impressive.

If you like a long story and don't require extensive fighting then this is a DMOD worth playing.
