Site News: Download of the Year Awards 2003 Finally Commence
Posted by Tal on Friday September 3rd, at 10:40 PM
After months upon months of forgetfulness and/or procrastination, redink1, our (current) lovely dictator, has finally enabled nominations for the 2003 Download of the Year (DOTY) awards. In each of the three categories - D-Mod, Development, and Miscellaneous - you may nominate up to five files. After the nominating process is over, the five files from each category with the most nominations will be eligible for the actual process of voting, which will hopefully take place not too far in the future. So go now, and nominate your favorites from 2003 - if you can get over the surprise and amazement of the DOTY's existence.

(Hopefully this was coherent; I am worn out.)

Updated D-Mod: Elves of Rathor v1.3
Posted by redink1 on Monday September 6th, at 09:52 PM
Carrie has updated her D-Mod Elves of Rathor to v1.3. A few hardbox, depth-dot, and script issues have been dealt with.

Note: this is in the new .dmod format, so you probably need DFArc to install it. All of the D-Mods will be converted to the .dmod format in the coming days, so if you find a problem please post about it.

New D-Mod: Cursed v1.1
Posted by Tal on Sunday September 12th, at 05:03 PM
Hot on the heels of Elves of Rathor, her first D-Mod, Carrie has released a new D-Mod entitled Cursed. Dink must find a way to remove a curse that has befallen the king. Which king, I have no clue. The King of the Universe, perhaps? The King of Swing? Play and find out.

As is the case with the last few D-Mods published, this D-Mod has been compressed in the .dmod format, which the lovely DFArc uncompresses.

Site News: Download of the Year Awards 2003 - Ready for voting!
Posted by Tal on Sunday September 12th, at 09:36 PM
Note: The voting has been fixed. If you already voted, please vote again.

The nomination phase of the Download of the Year Awards 2003 has ended, and now the real voting ensues! (Well, really, it starts about two hours after I post this news..) You are given six* files to choose from in each category, and you may only choose one file per category, so vote wisely. You may place your votes at the following locations: D-Mod Finals, Development Finals, and Miscellaneous Finals.

For those of you curious to see the results of the nominating process, you may follow these links: D-Mod, Dev, Misc.

* Six rather than the planned five due to ties.

The Lost One: Mythago Wood
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday September 14th, at 09:38 PM
And so, the gods of words decreed that there shall be a new article to grace the land of The Dink Network, and all were repulsed in its horror. Instead of focusing on random things, funny questions, abandoned discussions, it would instead focus on the utter horror gnawing at the underbelly of The Dink Network: D-Mods that were started, but never saw the light of day.

For The Lost Part One, I've decided to focus on Mythago Wood. It was started by SabreTrout, and he recruited the aid of Simeon, Binirit and myself. The project promptly went no-where, but we did get some kinda cool test screenshots made out of it.

For more information, including what the original thoughts were, read the comments.

Carrie2004 has updated Cursed to v1.2. It fixes the screenlock issue, and some hardness bugs to boot.

New Dev File: Simeon's Source Pack
Posted by Tal on Wednesday September 15th, at 02:29 PM
The one and only Simeon has released a collection of all the .c files (scripts) from Blood Scorpions, Once in a Lifetime, and World of DinkC aptly entitled Simeon's Source Pack. Shortly after releasing this, Simeon flew back into his nest, tending to the young squids inside.

New Files: Initation and Red Dragon Movies
Posted by redink1 on Sunday September 19th, at 09:17 PM
Simon Klaebe has released an introduction for the (probably) cancelled Church of the Red Dragon and a trailer for my Initiation. Cool stuff.

I can only assume that the trailer for Initiation was born unto this world when SimonK was visited by the Fairy of Boredom and Despair one afternoon. With the Initiation Beta firmly tormenting his mind weeks after he touched it, he thought that making a trailer could help ease the pain. I'm guessing he was wrong.

Site News: Conversion to .dmod Files Complete
Posted by redink1 on Sunday September 19th, at 09:24 PM
All of the D-Mods available on The Dink Network have been converted to the .dmod file format.

To install these .dmods, you need to install DFArc. Then you can just double-click on a .dmod, and it will give you the option of installing it.

Again, if you have ANY problems or suggestions, please post a comment.

Awards: Download of the Year Results!
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday September 22nd, at 01:25 PM
The delirious voting for the 2003 Download of the Year has completed, and here are the results!

For the D-Mod of the Year... Simeon won with World of DinkC. Congratulations! It was definately one of the rare, excellent D-Mods.

And for the Development File of the Year... it was a tie between SimonK's Pilgrim's Quest Enemy Graphics Pack and my Trees. Congratulations SimonK and self for making graphics of wonderment and destruction. Ohhh yes, you know that my trees would crush SimonK's enemies.

And finally, for Miscellaneous File of the Year... drum roll please ... Mr. None won! Congratulations! I called him up on the telephoner and he responded with an absence of sound. I wouldn't expect anything less.

Well, that's it, see you next September for the Download of the Year for 2004.

New D-Mod: Cloud Castle 2: Scarab
Posted by Tal on Saturday September 25th, at 03:46 PM
After months/years of hard work possibly combined with a little laziness and goofiness, SabreTrout and Arik have finally released Cloud Castle 2: Scarab. And after about 30-45 minutes of meddling with the file entry in Miasma by dumping reviews, fixing minor errors with it, and whatnot, I'm finally ready to present it to you! I tested this D-Mod, and I must say that I enjoyed it quite a lot. Hopefully you will, also.

New D-Mod: Initiation
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday September 29th, at 08:47 PM
Well, the oft-delayed Cast Awakening Part 1: Initiation has finally been released. In it, Dink Smallwood is invited to join the Hall of Heroes society ... and something goes wrong, as usual. It has a handful of neat things that you'll have to discover for yourself.

Updated D-Mod: Cloud Castle 2 v0.96
Posted by redink1 on Thursday September 30th, at 08:41 PM
Cloud Castle 2 has been updated to v0.96. It fixes a bugs with sahib, the library, screenlocked slayers, and more. Wee.

Update 7:00 am EST: If you get the error 'Could not load one of the tilescreens', please download v0.96 again. There was an odd bug where the TS41.bmp file was corrupted in the first hours that v0.96 was available.
