New Dev Graphics: Belgotha
Posted by redink1 on Sunday August 22nd, at 07:06 PM
Simon Klaebe aims to amuse and amaze with his latest release, Belgotha Graphics. It contains a new player character, a 'Moogle', along with several other graphics and tiles of quite good quality. Its also in D-Mod format, so even if you're not a developer you might want to check it out just to walk around and experience the graphics in their glory.

July 2004 DOTM
Posted by redink1 on Sunday August 22nd, at 07:09 PM
The July 2004 Download of the Month is now eagerly anticipating your vote of doom and gloom. There are 6 D-Mods to choose from, a midi pack, and, of course, Mr. None.

I met Mr. None the other day, and he seemed pretty depressed. I mean, after entering the DOTM every single month for quite a while, he's only won a couple times!

New D-Mod: Elves of Rathor
Posted by Tal on Monday August 23rd, at 08:07 PM
Carrie has released her first D-Mod, Elves of Rathor. I've not played it, but I'd wager it pertains to the Elves of Rathor, and not the Dwarves of Thorin. Right. So play on.

I am tired.

Site News: Successor
Posted by redink1 on Friday August 27th, at 02:46 PM
I first started The Dink Network as a small web site called "redink1's Smallnet" just over six years ago. It was competing against the other, established Dink sites such as Smokin' E's Dink Page, The Dink Woods, The Dink Source, The Dink Smallweb, and a multitude of others.

But, through sheer perseverance, this web site survived as the others gradually stopped updating. What followed was a long period of change, as the name changed to 'The Dink Network', staff members came and left, message boards were changed and changed again, and different designs were played with.

It has been one heck of a six years. But there's one more change that needs to take place...

Within a few months or years, after Generation 9 and Miasma 3 have been implemented and I am assured they are working correctly, I am proud to say that Tal will take over as webmaster of The Dink Network.

Chat: We're changing servers. Again.
Posted by Phoenix on Friday August 27th, at 10:47 PM
Those of you who chat, know what the problem is. Those of you who have been with me through the last few years REALLY know what the problem is. Every chat network that we begin using, ends up malfunctioning after a few months of use. It's like we're cursed. But why let that stop us? We can just move on until we've ruined yet a network, by which we're ready to move again.

Important Announcement & New D-Mod: Chaos
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday August 31st, at 06:41 PM
From now on, all D-Mods will be in the '.dmod' format. This allows you to simply double-click on .dmod, and it will prompt you to install it. No more messing around with zip files, extracting them to the correct directory, wondering why the D-Mod comes up with a blank screen with the version at the bottom, etcetera.

However, in order for all of this magic mumbo-jumbo to take place, you should install DFArc, Merlin's D-Mod File Archiver tool. It should be pretty painless.

For our guinea pig, I've chosen Ric's D-Mod Chaos. From what I played, it didn't look to chaotic, much more peaceful. Well, as peaceful as killing random critters can be.

New Dev File: Hardboxer
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday August 31st, at 08:03 PM
MiloBones has released his Hardboxer development file from captivity. Essentially you can generate a sprite-based hardbox around a house by giving it a script, for the lazy who don't appreciate hard tiles nor placing tons of invisible sprites.

Edit: I forgot to mention that this file is in the form of an example D-Mod, so it is in the .dmod format that I mentioned in the previous news story, so you should use DFArc to install it.

Awards: July 2004 Download of the Month Results
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday August 31st, at 08:09 PM
Holy crack monkeys, there was a 3-way tie between The Ants Demo, Matoya, and Mr. None. Congrats to MiloBones and Astral for winning. Mr. None does not get congratulated because he is an over-zealous monkey who eats too many bananas on Sunday. Come on, eat them on Thursday like any normal primate, you goof.

In related news, it appears that this 3-way tie has completely screwed the Awards results page. It is supposed to list how many votes each item gets, but that has not happened. I guess I'll have to go in there and tweak things a bit, and I'll add purty bar graphs while I'm at it.
