Awards: Download of the Year Voting Results!
Posted by Tal on Thursday February 6th, at 08:53 PM
After, um, much discussion and debating, the results of the 2002 DOTY voting are in, and I have decided to present to you the results during redink1's absence:

To noone's surprise, Pilgrim's Quest nabbed the DOTY D-Mod award, with many respectable D-Mods coming in a few votes behind. Congratulations to SimonK, who will likely celebrate by Googling up some amateur... artwork. Also, judging from the amount of votes Cloud Castle received, I don't think SabreTrout will be promoting his D-Mod everywhere he roams for quite a while. See the complete results here.

In the Development category, Tyrsis and Paul tied for the DOTY award with Dink's Trunk and Sprite Replacer, respectively. Congrats to those two! We shall let them bicker amongst themselves regarding who should have won. See the complete results here.

Finally, in the Miscellaneous files category, joshriot conquered all, winning a DOTY award with Bangerang Boomerang. Somewhat-reliable sources say that josh was eating clam chowder when he heard the news. He seemed happy. So congrats. You can see the results for this category here.

Dunno what to finish this off with... *ahem* Let's hope for (and submit) more good files to vote for next year!

Edit: My apologies to WC, who posted the results about 13 minutes before I did, unaware of redink1's request that I post them. Sorry..

Updated Dev File: WinDinkEdit 1.3 Final
Posted by WC on Friday February 7th, at 12:21 AM
While redink has been coding his butt off on the generation 8 version of this beautiful site, I have also been doing so for WinDinkEdit.

None of the people I sent the beta version too reported any bugs, and the extensive testing I did on it didn't come up with any either. If you find any bugs, have and idea's for future updates, or wish to be a beta tester, please contact me.

If you are a developer, or just want to poke at the source code, you may also download the source code (which I have made sure is compatible with Visual Studio 6 and 7). Just remember, you must have the Direct X 7 (or later) SDK installed.

Site News: Generation 8 Launched
Posted by redink1 on Saturday February 8th, at 04:18 PM
Well, after passing innumerable deadlines like 15 MPH cars on the expressway, Miasma v2/Generation 8 has launched. It isn't complete yet... I'd estimate it at about 80%. However, everything that is visible right now should work fine... if it doesn't, please post a message on the board right away. And if you can't post on the board... use E-Mail.

Kudos to Superwolfman for designing the new logo, and misc. other graphics.

There is some more information in the Comments section.

New Dev File: Battlesys 3.1 *Update*
Posted by redink1 on Saturday February 8th, at 11:02 PM
theprophet has released Battlesys 3.1. It shows how to create a turn-based, Final-Fantasy style D-Mod in Dink. Sounds interesting... though theprophet says there might be a few bugs, and he needs authors to test it out. I think.

Update Feb 14th, 2003: theprophet updated it with some bug fixes.

So sayeth the scorched bird:

I know this question may be a bit cheezy, but at valentines day, could you announce Sharp's and my 2nd year anniversary? We promise not to celebrate it at the dn until a lot more years have passed after this...

Happy anniversary Phoenix and Sharp!

New Dev File: Ted's Tools and Toys
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday February 19th, at 05:18 PM
DinkC Guru Ted Shutes has released Ted's Tools and Toys. Ted describes it as:

"This is a grab bag of Dink authoring tools I have created in the process of doing my dmod tinkering. Some of them should also be of interest as cheats for non-programmers."

Sounds cool. Ted also released updated his DinkC Reference to v3.1. It includes a brand-new System Variables section, as well as the usual corrections and updates.

Awards: January 2003 DOTM Voting
Posted by redink1 on Friday February 21st, at 10:30 PM
Well, after forgetting almost completely about the January 2003 Download of the Month, I finally coded it, so go vote now. There wasn't much released in January... just a GIMP tutorial, lava tiles, Land of No Man graphics, some snow graphics, and the D-Mods Dink's Father 1: Quest for the Scroll and Dry.

As always, anyone with an account can vote, and you can only vote once. If you vote more than once, your latest vote counts. Voting will be active until through the end of the month.

UPDATE: The automated award thing decided to mess up, so Dry was accidently left out for a few hours. If you already voted, but want to vote for Dry, just vote again. Thanks DethLord.

Discussion Fourteen : What to do with all the M.O.N.E.Y. ?
Posted by Kyle on Sunday February 23rd, at 12:33 PM
Discussion hour's back and here's the topic :

For a while now there's been money in the community fund, but it hasn't been used for anything so far, mainly because there were still some questions as to what could be done with it. We decided to let you all have a say in it, kind men that we are.
So, what do you want to see done with the money? Do you want it to be used for contests and if so, what should the reward be? An item from the store or something completely different? And if it's a contest you want, what should the contest be about exactly?
Perhaps you're thinking of something totally different, either way, head down to the comments and P.O.S.T. Now!
