Monthly Update: New DOTM and Story
Posted by redink1 on Sunday June 2nd, at 11:26 AM
The May 2002 Download of the Month is now ready to be voted on. It was another slow month... only one D-Mod, though 4 Development files were released.

In case you don't have any idea what this silly DOTM thing is, check out the Awards page.

Also, the June 2002 interactive story is ready for your contributions. Last month turned out pretty good... 52 chapters.

Ask Tal good to go!
Posted by Tal on Tuesday June 4th, at 08:15 PM
Well, I'd explain why it wasn't running earlier, but I think I'll just put it this way: I am a dunce.

If you don't know what Ask Tal is, it's a weekly column where I answer 5 (maybe 10 if it's popular) reader questions, Dink-related or not. What do you get? Mildly humorous reading that may prove to be even a tiny bit helpful later in your grand life.

So submit those questions now!

UPDATE: Eh, I forgot to note this...Ask Tal is published every Saturday. So if you have to have your question answered before then, hit the board.

Desert Storm: New Dev Files
Posted by redink1 on Thursday June 6th, at 10:14 AM
DethLord has released an update to his Desert Tiles Graphics, which are now in 50x50 proportions and have hills.

Meanwhile, SimonK launched a counter-offensive with his Stone of Balance Desert Tiles, which are the Desert Tiles from Stone of Balance, suprisingly enough.

Also, JamesPerley's old Desert Tiles lost its battle yesterday without a shot being fired... and are now under the guise of Autumn Tiles.

Updated Dev File: WinDinkEdit .911 Beta
Posted by WC on Saturday June 8th, at 01:15 AM
Gary Hertel has stopped working on WinDinkEdit, so I have taken it under my wings and I will fix it/add to it when ever it needs it; I hope this will test my current programming skills. You may Download WinDinkEdit .911 Beta and test out it's new fixes and junk (view comment to read about those). Special Thanks to Tal for uplaoding this since RPGPlanet hasn't issued me my account (HINT HINT RedInk).

P.S. Don't e-mail Gary Hertel about bugs and features, BUG ME!

UPDATE: Problem with MFC .dll's needed fixed in version 0.911 beta!

New Dev File: Eyeball Enemy
Posted by redink1 on Saturday June 8th, at 10:25 PM
Simon Klaebe has released graphics for an Eyeball Enemy for use in your D-Mods. Simon says (pun intended), "Thought I'd submit these graphics as I don't think I'm going to be using them for my DMOD. I've included readme file that hopefully helps install everything. It is basically a giant eyeball - that uses touch_damage to hurt Dink. (A modified pillbug, I guess)."

DOTM Results: Hanging Chads *Update*
Posted by redink1 on Sunday June 9th, at 02:45 PM
Time to rewrite history.

See, when I programmed the awards part of info.cgi, I really didn't know what I was doing. So today I decide to end the May 2001 DOTM. And the script said SkeletonX won with 6 votes. I wanted to see who voted and such, so I viewed the raw database... and SimpleGraphics had 9 non-duplicate votes. Then I knew something was screwed...

So to sum things up, this changes a couple of the previous DOTMs.

As Good As Eternity actually tied End of Time v2.00 in January 2002. So AGAE gets a DOTM.

Milderr!! 3 beat Once in a Lifetime by one vote in April 2002... so OIAL loses its DOTM.

Update: Easy DinkC and Dink Smallwood French also lost their DOTY awards... I forgot to check the DOTY results yesterday...

All of the other results were correct... well, the numbers changed, but the results stayed the same.

Oh, and as for the May 2002 DOTM, mimifish's SimpleGraphics won. Congrats.

New D-Mod: The Creeping Sands
Posted by Tal on Sunday June 16th, at 05:36 PM
SimonK, well-known for the D-Mod Stone of Balance, has released The Creeping Sands v0.3, a D-Mod romp that he created in a matter of days. It has not been beta tested, so keep in mind when you play that there may be bugs in the game. Also, the D-Mod comes in at just over 3 MB, making it a fairly large download for a romp.

Simon Klaebe Updates
Posted by redink1 on Thursday June 20th, at 11:06 AM
Today Simon updated The Creeping Sands to v0.5.
"Fixed the riddle rock so that it doesn't give the riddle after its solved. Fixed some map/hardness errors. No longer freezes if you have a level up after killing the end boss."
Two days ago Simon updated Eyeball Junior to version A. A very, very minor update, the script didn't have an sp_strength before; now it does.

There was also a small update to Isle of Croth bringing it to v1.3. "A bug with the machine in the temple not recognising the Light Sword if you only armed it inside the temple, instead of walking in with it"

There was also an 'invisible' update to the full version of Stone of Balance v2.11. Ever since v2.03, the 'Burst' intro graphics were not included. If you don't have the burst intro, make sure to download it seperately.

New D-Mod Demo: Bane of the Magi
Posted by Tal on Sunday June 23rd, at 12:32 AM
A certain somebody was obviously in a rush to roll blunts after uploading this file, so I've decided to do the news post.

Ric has released the demo to his upcoming D-Mod Bane of the Magi. I can't seem to find any good references to the story in the readme, but the features sound interesting, if anything. The file weighs in at about a meg and a half.

New Development Files
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday June 26th, at 06:01 PM
Simon Klaebe has released a pretty thorough tutorial on Creating Enemy Sprites. It covers the process of creating new enemy sprites, using Eyeball Junior as an example. The zip file includes both Microsoft Word and HTML formats.

Simon Klaebe also released some Grass to Pavement/Stones Tiles. Pretty self-explanatory.

And finally, I uploaded Music Sculptor, a really old Midi program. Beuc suggested it, so I hope it is of use to your loony musicians out there

Since Kyle isn't around as much as he used to be, I've decided to create a discussion for the heck of it.

Current Events: Dink Chat
Posted by WC on Sunday June 30th, at 04:14 PM
I have decided to do my own little thingy like Recondite and AskTal. This one will be a current events briefing about recent events in the dink community. I haven't decided if I'm going to do it twice a week, once a week, or as needed. Maybe I'll let people give me feedback and I will decide based on that.

Well, this post of the Current Events will feature the European Dink Chat held today at 20:00 GMT and 12:00 PST and the DethLord Scandal. View the comments to read more.
