Hi, just checking in - amazed at all the D-Mods there are!!

I had a few comments about mine, if you were around back when I was writing
D-Mods. First, you guys must have gotten a LOT better at it than I or anybody else was back then. Keep in mind that when the Quest for Arithia trilogy was written, there weren't many/any "large" or "quest" D-Mods at all - if there were, I can't recall. When the Arithia D-Mods were released, they were among the best available. I realize this is far from true with all the choices today, but for it was "groundbreaking" for its time.

My first D-Mod, "The Scar of David" - was the *first* 3rd-party D-Mod ever made. Seth had written the Milli Vanilli one, but the word "D-Mod" wasn't used until I suggested that there be some kind of term for these modules instead of just "add-on." I remember (vaguely) when I wrote Scar - Dink fans were excited about making add-ons, but nobody really knew how to do it yet. It was fun being there to help get things off the ground, with Redink1 and others!

Dinkanoid wasn't supposed to be original, not in the sense that "I" invented breakout. I purposely used the Arkanoid logo and Arkanoid music. The point was that I wanted to make a totally un-Dink game *using* the Dink engine. It was an experiment - I had more fun writing Dinkanoid than I did any of the others, because I was playing around with changing aspects of how the game works. Sure, there are problems -- a slow-down before the "ball" is lost, apparently it's too fast on faster machines (I expected that the Dink engine itself handles speed issues - I guess it doesn't). There were never any big "bugs" though. Somebody mentions that the save games don't work. I'm kind of surprised. Saving always worked wonderfully! :-/

Then, Dink's Doppelganger. It was actually going to be a commercial project at one point. I really don't remember the full plan - possibly I was going to sell Zolan Wars (never started) using Dink's Doppelganger as freebie bait. At the time, there was a lot of controversy on whether or not people had a "right" to sell D-Mods. Seth certainly didn't mind, but I think the "free free free" thinking was just too ingrained in the community. It was a moot point though, my fiance at the time (broke up after about 7 months -- I'm married now to a wonderful girl, been together nearly 3 years) felt neglected and made me choose between her and my games. :-/ It's really disappointing though. I can't readily remember exactly what was going to happen in the Zolan Wars. There was a lot dealing with the "mirror" Dink, time travel (Rozarus), the alien invaders (who are "good" in the world of Dink's Doppelganger - but "evil" in the real Dink's world). There was going to be a point where Dink is able to save the chick (can't remember her name) from dying at the hands of the Evil Dink (at least, I think I'm remembering this right) by going back in time. Yadda yadda yadda. Coulda woulda shoulda.

Anyway, it's cool to see that there are so MANY D-Mods, and apparently a larger following now than when I was doing it!
