That must be enough reason. Being able to quickly place some world symbols, and reaching other symbols. Okay, not enough reason for the COMMON user to use, but...
Also, I have a some musical notes fonts, but a music program uses them. Perhaps Wingdings was used for a similar purpose in some programs...
