Back in the days Commander Keen was indeed a great way to spend your spare time, but really, no use clinging to the past. There have been many good platform games (even 3D) that far surpass it . Nostalgia is a nice thing, but don't let it blind you Same counts for Doom and Duke Nukem 3D. A good example of a similar FPS that's not old yet is Prey.
If you're a cheap hag but want an awesome RPG you can get The Way. It's a free game for RPGMaker 2000, but definitely better than most other games on the market today (if you can get over the 2D aspect of it).
