If you don't have an account, just leave the password field blank.
Interestingly, the thing I mentioned (the codec pack) lets Windows Media Player play more formats, so he wouldn't need to make use of new software, just enhance the one he's already using. And seriously, if WMP already supports all the movie formats you're watching, you aren't watching many movies. (At least not from many different sources.)
