Whether you use DinkEdit or WinDinkEdit is a matter of taste, though in my experience DinkEdit is better.

Compatibility mode is the way to go really, unless you have other problems as well. There's not much difference between v1.06 and v1.07 and the patch seems to be a little buggy. (beta 3, wasn't it?)

To change the compatibility mode right-click DinkFrontEnd.exe, choose compatibility and check the box that says "run this program in compatibility mode for:"
